From | Judicial Union Party | To | Debating the Income tax proposal of September 2612 | Message | We propose to increase income tax rates, in order to allow us to increase spending on defence, and other essential ministries. The world is going through a difficult time. We have Aldegar to the south preparing for international war, and Baltusia and Valruzia may very well be doing the same. We can no longer sit idly by. We must be read to defend ourselves.
Thus these measures are only temporary, until the global climate cools (metaphorically, not in terms of global climate change). But for now, we must take action. |

From | Judicial Union Party | To | Debating the Income tax proposal of September 2612 | Message | In addition, our economy has been undergoing somewhat of a slowdown recently, which has been up to now unaddressed. It is not constructive to blame any particular recent Minister of Finance for the past two terms, so we will not do so.
Economic slowdown calls for an injection of government funds. This increase in tax, if put back into the economy as government spending, will restart our economy. We can go back to being very rich again, instead of just quite wealthy. |

From | Liberty Party | To | Debating the Income tax proposal of September 2612 | Message | Why should business owners who invest their profits to better their lives (which they can and should do) be punished for being successful by paying 50% taxes? No. |

From | Judicial Union Party | To | Debating the Income tax proposal of September 2612 | Message | "Why should business owners who invest their profits to better their lives (which they can and should do) be punished for being successful by paying 50% taxes?" and "why should successful businesses who are sole proprietorships pay high taxes?"
Those are coming quite close to trying to argue against a progressive tax. |

Random quote: "The moral justification of capitalism does not lie in the altruist claim that it represents the best way to achieve 'the common good.' It is true that capitalism does, if that catch-phrase has any meaning, but this is merely a secondary consequence. The moral justification for capitalism lies in the fact that it is the only system consonant with man's rational nature, that it protects man's survival qua man, and that its ruling principle is justice." - Ayn Rand |
