In order to help parent(s)/guardian(s) decide on the suitability of films for their children to watch, and in order to prevent children from seeing graphic violence and/or sex whilst watching a film without the consent of the parent/guardian, the Government will introduce a Certifications system. This system will rate all films and television programmes within certain categories (as described below) defined by age. Parent(s)/guardian(s) may, should they wish, over rule said system in regards which films or programmes are purchased, but may not in regards access to cinemas, but the child may not without the permission of the parent/guardian. Ratings: U - Universal. Film/programme is suitable for all ages. PG - Parental Guidance. General viewing, but some scenes may not be suitable for young children. 12 - Suitable only for persons of 12 years and over. 15 - Suitable only for persons of 15 years and over. 18 - Suitable only for persons of 18 years and over. Certifications are decided upon by the Hobrazian Board of Film Certification (HBFC). |
