Bill: Income tax proposal of August 2631
Details
Submitted by[?]: Normand Pluralist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2632
Description[?]:
The Socialists' tax proposal disastrously harmed our great nation. It increased overall taxation by more than 40%, costing Sekowans a good deal of their livelihood, and even decreasing incomes to poverty levels (some could no longer afford to purchase a baguette!) They increased taxation across ALL income levels, some massively. They created problems with taxations which made it so that those making LESS would actually be able to KEEP more because of their unfair taxation schemes (for example, under the DSP system, if you made 65k, you would take home more than someone making 70k after taxes). We propose this simple taxation scheme which is fair, less burdensome, and similar to previous taxation plans except that it adds an additional, higher tax bracket (as we now have those which fall under this higher bracket). |

Message | We're obviously opposed since it would underfund our programs. Further more the surplus is redistributed at the end of every year so people are'nt doing terribly. |

Message | OOC: I decided to check somethign and I just realized a good idea for an RP bill, progressive redistribution. As it stands if we round things and assume everyone is given an equal amount then everyone would get somwhere between 194-220 back a year. I'm not sure of the exact amount since I have no idea what percent of the population is supposed to be legally adults since I have'nt done the calculations in along time. |

Message | OOC: Hardly. I'm talking about the same thing the United States does every year. |

Message | [[No the US gives tax refunds which are based entirely on what you paid in taxes for that year, and how many deductions you claim. Most people overpay taxes up front, and so the government sends them a check with the remainder. Some individuals underpay up front, and they get sent an invoice. There is no redistribution of wealth involved.]] |

Message | OOC: I meant that's most likely what we do now, mixed with a flat rate system, I was saying I think I'm gonna propose a progressive system in the future for RP. |

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections. |
