Message | There is no reason for a minimum wage because the government already guarantees a reasonable level of income. The unneeded minimum wage will slow down our economy. |

Message | On the contrary, it's best to have the wages paid by the companies, rather than the government! If there were no minimum wage and no income-based welfare (which case I'm certainly not advocating), people simply wouldn't work at jobs that paid next to nothing, and so companies wouldn't offer jobs that paid next to nothing, even though the amount they settle for still might be less than fair. However, if there is no minimum wage but there is an income-based welfare (which is what this bill proposes), people will make the same amount of money whether they work for next to nothing or for a reasonable wage. So people will be okay with working at jobs that pay next to nothing, and companies will replace all their current minimum-wage jobs with next-to-nothing-wage jobs. What will end up happening is a hugely increased welfare burden on the government, as it will be stuck with paying out to those people all the money the companies are saving. This would be corporate welfare. |

Message | I'll just propose a corporate tax increase of 5%. |

Message | A corporate tax to pay for this would balance things out between the government and industry in general, yes. But it would change the demographic of the kind of industry we have here. Low-tech, low-wage-intensive companies would flock to Selucia for the chance to pay lower wages than in other nations. But high-tech, high-wage-intensive companies would leave Selucia, because they would have to pay increased taxes but wouldn't get the benefit of the abolished minimum wage. We would prefer that high-tech jobs stayed in the country. |
