Bill: Mayoral Election Devolution Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Centrist Party of Hobrazia

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2673

Description[?]:

The electorate's faith in the government can be increased if they are allowed to vote for the Mayor of their town. The Mayor will affect decisions closely linked to the local electorate and will ensure that they feel autonomous with specific issues. It makes sense to allow people this freedom to more involve the citizens of Hobrazia in the politics that will affect them closest to home.

MessageDevolution is a foolhardy and expensive proposition that does nothing to increase civil liberties but increases bureaucratic expenditure. We would rather that the position of local mayors be abolished and local councils take control as the bureaocracy for them already exists.

MessageMayors can be a good link between the councils and the electorate. A mediator perhaps, in order for change and progress in small towns.

MessageThe majority of small towns have no requirement for a mayor as there are not enough constituents to make such a position worthwhile. To introduce such a position is expensive bureacratic ineptitude of the highest order.
