Bill: Income tax proposal of May 2682

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Union Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2683

Description[?]:

The National Union Party propose to adjust the government's income tax policy to better address the economic situation of the Republic of Telamon.

We as a party believe that the poorest in society should be taken out of tax completely, which will give them a greater incentive to work instead of claiming benefits. Also people that are successful should not be overly taxed for their hard work but are still taxed at a fair rate.

We are also reducing the luxury good tax, which penalise the poor who are unable to purchase certain goods due to an unnecessary tax and the rich will buy the good anyway.

This bill will help propel the economy to the forefront and make our workers work harder for Telamon. We present this bill to the house.

MessageWhile we respect the initiative to abolish taxation for the poorest sections of society, this tax reform merely passes a higher burden of tax onto the 'the deserving poor'. The current taxation system taxes those on 5000 TPD and over at a rate of 15%, while now those only on 2500 TPD will be taxed 16%, an increase of 1% for those on incomes 50% less than previously.

It would be better to lower the lowest taxation band to a reasonable level for those on the poorest sections of society, while making the burden fall more distrubitably across the rest of the spectrum.
