Bill: Religious freedom reform bill
Details

Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2704
Description[?]:
A bill to prohibit taxation of recognized religious organizations. The CLU believes that while it would be ideal that all religions are considered tax-exempt, certain organizations may use the label of religion as an excuse for tax evasion. Therefore, we propose individual churches and mosques having to show proof that they indeed act in a pious and charitable manner before acquiring tax-exempt status. |

Message | And who is going to decide whether we recognise a particular religion? All religions are equivalent, and there is simply no way to distinguish between them. Nor should we, for to have freedom of religion, people must be able to believe in what htey want. Further, if a secular business makes money, they are taxed on it. Why should a religion get some kind of exemption just because they are religious? That goes against the separation of church and state. |

Message | Taxing religious institutions?! What kind of a screwed up government is this? CLU, I know we promised to support you every bill, and we will support this one if you make one tiny udjustment: "ALL religions are not taxed" that is how it should be. |

Message | Why would you tax religious institutions? Why are they so special? Everyone has to pay tax, it's how society works. Just because a group believes in some kind of sky fairy does not mean they should get special treatment - that is contrary to human rights and the separation of church and state. |
