Details
Submitted by[?]: Hizbul'quami al-Ijtima'i wa tahir'i
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2706
Description[?]:
According to a recent poll in the UTT Newspaper, the majority of people (34.77%) voted that All abortions should be illegal. 15.87% voted that abortions should only be allowed in medical emergencies. This comprises just over half of the population, but currently the constitution does not reflect this. We do not aim to change the entire section of the constitution with reference to Health and Education Rights, but do think that this should be reformed to reflect the desires of the people. |

Message | A constitution is not there to be the wishes of a simple majority. It is there to protect the rights of minorities. It's actually quite irrelevant what the majority thinks, for this is an essential human right. |
Date | 23:03:31, February 01, 2009 CET | From | Socialist Justice Left Party | To | Debating the Healthcare Reform Bill |
Message | We agree with the Judicial Union Party. A constitution is not a wishlist of the majority or the more powerful, but rather an instrument for the downtrodden and oppressed to be heard. The Party believes that abortion is a woman's right and will vote against this bill no matter what provisions are made. |

Message | By that logic, if 95% of people want to elect a certain candidate, and 5% want to elect another candidate, we should disregard what 95% of the population says, and elect the candidate who only satisfies the needs of 5% of the people. Democracy must be consistent in all cases. |
