Bill: Deregulation of Tap Water Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Solentian Industrial Council

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2731

Description[?]:

Why does the Government find the need to intervene with drinking water? Currently, local governments operate water pumping facilities. Due to this, these facilities care only enough to follow the minimum standards, which produces drinkable but disgusting tap water. Deregulation removes the bureaucracy and forces the water industry to prove that provided water is safe, thus forcing such industries to produce clean and therefore delicious water.

MessageWhat a ridiculous proposal. While I agree that all efforts must be made to increase our nations economic status, reducing the quality and SAFETY of our nation's drinking water is not the way to do this!

If water is not regulated and controlled by local government we will have no way of ensuring that the correct quality, clean, safe drinking water is being made available to our citizens.

MessageDeregulation would, as stated above, actually increase the quality and safety of drinking. Without government regulations, a water-pumping business would need to prove directly to the consumer that their water is indeed safe, as the consumer would have the choice between pumping industries. If the pumping facility cannot keep up with the consumer's standards, it would go out of business, and thus eliminate poorly filtered water works whilst promoting healthy competition.

MessageBut there is a flaw in your proposal. Private industry, without government regulation allows the industries to alter/mix chemicals with the water as they see fit, which would be, undoubtedly disastrous! It would allow them free reign to easily disguise, poor quality water with an abundance of chemicals readily available to convince the consumer they are drinking safe water, when in fact, it could be contaminated with a whole world of problematic chemicals and agents. Lets be fair here, the people on the receiving end of this un-regulated health mine field are not the "Consumers" they are our citizens.

Can we afford to take risks with their health?

MessageIf the people start to get sick, they'd do the intelligent thing, and choose another water pumping company. It's as simple as that; a corporation wouldn't dare harm those who keep it in business, or they'd risk the bottom line and therefore risk profit.

MessageYour failing to see that the bottom line is the safety of our people, not profits! We must ensure the water they drink is safe, we must ensure the water they drink is to government standards, and until regulations are put forward to implement these regulations throughout the industry, the National Socialist Party will never support privatised water supply!

MessageYou have failed to see the equilibrium between them. To stay in business, a water corporation MUST make their water safe and clean, otherwise they'd surely go out of business. This is a wonderful compromise for all; money will be made in the private sector as competition will increase, and the public have the choice on where they receive their water. No longer will people be forced to merely "endure" under complacent safety nets and, as I will emphasize continuously, will FORCE the corporations to operate at peak efficiency, thus producing a high quality product, which in this case is tap water.
