MessageWe do not think it is fair that people should not be given the rights of an adult if they are not part of a certain religion. We believe that this is a form of discrimination that should be abolished.

MessageWhat age would other parties deem satisfactory? We would probably say 19-20.

MessageOOC: Sorry to rain on your parade - but this Bill, as it stands, is meaningless.

The 'favour text' (which here, simply reads 'adulthood') needs to contain an age BEFORE you bring it to a vote, because otherwise, you'd theoretically need to bring it to a vote AGAIN to pick a SPECIFIC age - and you can't bring the same Bill to vote twice in succession, without changing the parameters in between.

i.e. You'd have to submit a NEW bill that changed the determination of adulthood to something OTHER than age, and then change it back.

The Bill, submitted as it is - means that adulthood is 'determined by age' - but not by any SPECIFIC age. Thus - I could determine it means you're an adult at the point of conception, the LIP could determine it means 18 years old, and the LCW could determine it means you're an adult at the age at which you die. All would be equally valid, under this law as is.

MessageIC:

The most obvious mark of adulthood, is the ability to embrace truth when clear evidence is provided. Teenagers conventionally fail to make these connections, and you end up with pregnant cheerleaders to show for it.

Thus, since it is obvious that Immeressen IS the living embodiment of divinity, incarnated in Likatonia - it is pre-eminently sensible to assume that being a member of the Immeressent church exemplifies the transition from childhood to adulthood.

MessageOOC: Yes you are right, we probably should have addressed that fairly major issue whilst the bill was still in the debate phase.

OOC: unless they have some kind of a Benjamin Button thing going on, then i'm not really sure what happens.

MessageOOC: Well, I guess they'd be an adult for 19 years, most of which, they'd spend as children? That's gotta mess with your head. :D

IC: Obviously, we oppose. The simple, everyday presence of Immeressen in our lives, and in the Halls of Likatonian governance, forbids us from doing otherwise.

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature.
