MessageI'm not sure I understand how this is different.

The current states that religious schools can have teacher-led prayers. Secondly, this is not about individual students praying, it is about teachers leading and initiating prayers.

I would oppose any attempt to keep religious schools from being allowed to pray, or any attempt that would ban any student or group of students in any school from praying. What we are talking about here is teachers, and other people in authority in schools initiating prayers. Do you see the difference, or am I missing something here?

MessageThe only difference is, that in the current form, Private schools that are not religiously affiliated are included in the "Teachers are forbidden" category. We don't like the idea of the Government forbidding private school teachers from leading a prayer if the students/teacher/school wishes to do this. Many private schools have prayers to begin the day, and they are not always affiliated with religious organizations.

MessageTeachers should be forbidden from leading prayers in schools whose express function is not the promulgation of religious education. This is the point of regulation of private schools.

MessageWell, if it means the difference between creeping religion in the schools and stopping that, we have decided that it is important to stand on our principles here. We apologize for our commitment before and our vote against here, but it had to be done.
