Voting deadline: April 2759
Description[?]:
Big business should not be allowed to peddle lies or employ unethical techniques in its neverending bid to persuade people to buy things they don't really need. Money should not be the only driving force in determining what adverts are allowed on our televisions, in our newspapers and on our billboards. Standards of communal decency should come into it too. Message | Please clearly define "standards". This also possibly relates to the Anti-Propaganda Act, so I suggest you put your two cents into it. |

Message | As with other legislation, the government of the day will presumably be able to exercise some discretion in how the legislation is enforced, taking into account public opinion. However, this Bill is primarily targeted against adverts that are deliberately misleading, those that are grossly offensive on grounds of public decency, and those those that are considered to be of dubious ethic (I am thinking in particular of the aggressive way in which some products are marketed towards children, and rip-off lending or higher puchase schemes are marketed at the very people who can most ill-afford to take them out). I'm prepared to discuss the terms of the standards required by the Act in more detail, in the hope of winning political support for the Bill. Message | We agree -- misleading and deceptive ads hurt the public, and help only the miscreants that profit from them. |
