Details

Submitted by[?]: Federal Republican Party (ZC)

Status[?]: passed

Voting deadline: May 2782

Description[?]:

"…and if the Sel'Rakrya analysis is correct, we will certainly have to entertain the possibility of more open operations in Beitneyu." The young bureaucrat from the Interior Ministry set beside another staffer from the Foreign Ministry as the two gave their superiors reports to the newly elected Director-General Gould. Gould set listening half-heartedly as the two had been droning on for well over a half-hour now. There wasn't anything either one of them were saying that Mr. Gould wasn't already fully aware of. The two staffers set in silence awaiting the Director-General to respond.

"Good day, Gentlemen." The Director-General took his time in dismissing the two cabinet liaisons. His cutting tone left both of the men gutted and wondering if they had somehow upset the Director-General. The reality couldn't have been further from the truth. Gould still grimaced every morning waking up thinking of all the bureaucratic nonsense he'd have to deal with during the course of the working day. A man who had made a career in the Air Force and as former Defense Minister didn't leave Mr. Gould with much patience for politicians.

No sooner had the two staffers left, the Director-General's inherited Chief Aide was quickly in the D.G's office. "Mr. Gould, your running late for your 10AM meeting with Minister Rawlins aide, Conner Sten…" Brandi was cutoff quickly.

"I can't be bothered, cancel it. It'll just be the same old crap that I already know and have already worked out. How did Andrew ever manage this circus?" Director-General Gould's tone was rhetorical and Brandi had already come to know partially from reputation and partially from first-hand experience it was best to let such questions remain unanswered. "Remind me, have I met with Mr. Kent yet?"

"Umm, well…Sir, no you haven't. I've been meaning to talk to you about that. Mr. Kostandian phoned me twice yesterday demanding you take his calls on the issue. Would you like me to arrange a meeting?" The Director-General nodded approvingly, entirely avoiding the point of Mr. Kostandian and the phone calls.

As Brandi began to leave the room and make the arrangements the Director-General interjected. "One minute. What am I thinking, I know Bruce….Though this is a bit of an oversight having not met with him since I took office. . ." The Director-General paced the floor. "Alright, get Mr. Kent on the line and tell him to stop what he's doing, tell him to find a sitter for Wayne and Mrs. Kent and Bruce shall accompany Michelle and myself to Kostandian Bay. Get us tickets to the fight tomorrow night at the Nexus and arrange for Michelle and Mrs. Kent to have something….something for women. Oh, call Michelle too and tell her to pack her stuff-we'll leave this evening."

"Is that all, Sir?" Brandi replied. Director-General Gould nodded. "Sir, you do realize it's Tuesday and well-it isn't the weekend."

The Director-General shot a look to his Chief Aide and smiled. "Brandi, I'm the elected head of state and Mr. Kent is the Chancellor. It doesn't matter where we are, we can get our jobs done. Now when we take trips like this we do rely on a lot of government resources and technological achievements to accomplish these goals but, this is why as I have been informed you remain such a loyal supporter of the party." Director-General Gould smiled once more knowing his comments would put Brandi off her step.

"Michelle and I shall meet Mr. and Mrs. Kent at the airport-Mr. Kent can select the time. You let me know-for now I am going home those two drones before you came in have done me in for the day I'm afraid. Oh and don't tell Bruce about the fight tomorrow; I want it to be a surprise. Same for whatever you arrange for our wives. Oh also, take the next two days off-use your government account and treat yourself, eh?"

Brandi smiled broadly, Andrew was never as thrifty as Mr. Gould had thus far shaped up to be. Quite clear in her mission she walked out of the office to leave the Director-General and phone the Chancellor. . .

Message“And that children, is why is basically what I do as Chancellor. Any Questions ?” Chancellor Kent looked around the room at the faces of the children in the classroom. Finally one child raised his hand, “ Borrriiinnggg.”The other students laughed loudly. The teacher shot the student a scowl that would freeze a Zardic Leopard in its tracks. Kent smiled “Its a lot more interesting than it sounds, Thank you for inviting me to your career day, but now I must be off.”

With that Kent exited the classroom to a maelstrom of clicks and flashing cameras. He entered his limo where his assistant was waiting. “So how did it go?” said assistant Tompkins. “It went as I expected. So what is next for the day?” Kent looked out the window and let out a deep sigh, he longed for the days when his biggest concern was what party he was going to go to next. Tompkins continued on “then you have a meeting with advisors from the Interior Mini---“ Suddenly Tompkins phone rang, “Hello Chancellors Line….. why yes hello. One moment….” He handed the phone to Kent, “It’s the Director-Generals Aide on the line.”

Kent’s ears perked up, he was wondering when this call would come. “ Kent here…Yes… you do realize it’s a Tuesday afternoon correct?....Well I could use something to break the monotony…. Sounds good…..8 pm sounds good to me. Alright call my assistant Mr. Tompkins to confirm in a few hours. Goodbye.”
A smile came across his face, he had been looking forward to this meeting for awhile now. “Kostandian Bay, haven’t been out there for awhile. Tompkins call Serena tell her that we are going out of town tonight. Arrange for Wayne to go stay with his grandmother for a few days, and obviously cancel anything I have going on for the next few days”

“Yes Sir right away.”

The limo came to a stop in front of Realist Party Headquarters; Kent got out and walked to his office. “Damn, I will miss the fight tomorrow night, O well I can have it recorded for when I return.” Kent looked at the clock, “ Four-Thirty, plenty of time to get ready.” With that Kent sat in his large chair at his mahogany dance and pulled out a cigar, poured himself a glass of bourbon and pulled out the latest issue of the Zardic World Report.

MessageDirector-General Gould had indeed lived up to his word of calling it a day. He promptly left the office at the brisk hour of 11AM and went home to set his wife in motion to get ready to leave for a small holiday. His wife took bloody forever when it came to such events; D.G. Gould on the other hand was packed and ready to go within a half-hours time. With the rest of the day free in front of him, he remained in his private quarters making various phone-calls and reading various dossiers being compiled. At about 3PM the Director-General deemed it appropriate to take an afternoon nap. No sooner had Mr. Gould shut his eyes when the door flung open to his private quarters. Michelle stood staring, nostrils flared and cheeks a rosy red. "Yes love?" Vernon responded calmly.

"I have absolutely no idea what to wear. This is just impossible. I've had no notice, I need my nails done, I need to go to the beautician and your asking me to go spend the next few days with a super-model...Vernon, you really don't understand women sometimes you know?" Michelle finished her tirade.

"Michelle, she isn't a super-model she is an actress..." One of the most powerful men in Terra was completely powerless when it came to engagements such as this. Vernon given the options would opt for a war over an argument with his wife on clothing any day of the week.

"Actress, Supermodel same thing! She's gorgeous and I'm a wreck...why do I have to do this?" Michelle was nearly shouting as Director-General Gould set up devoid of any expression listening to wife. Michelle made her way to the sofa Vernon was sitting on and set her self beside him. "Darling, you know I think your the most beautiful thing on the planet and nothing will ever change that. This is an important meeting for both of us. Bruce is the Chancellor of this nation and quite a well-respected one. I've been quite daft in not having arranged this sooner and I do apologize for the lack of notification. Though, you have ample time-we're not leaving until 8PM. Just call Brandi and she can get anything you need done done. Just relax, this is going to be a relaxing retreat I promise." Vernon ended quietly with a kiss on Michelle's forehead. With an affectionate hug she left her husband and continued on with her arrangements.

7:40PM:

The Director-General and his wife opted to take Z.M. 1 to the airport where they would meet the Chancellor and his wife. At the risk of assembling a motorcade and interrupting traffic transport by the helicopter was much quicker and caused less of a headache. Both Vernon and Michelle Gould did their mental check-lists ensuring all their items were in tow as they boarded Z.M. 1. It was a short flight, just a matter of minutes to the Zardic air-base on the outskirts of Belgae that housed the Director-General and Chancellor's state-planes. The sight of Belgae Airfield brought a smile to Mr. Gould's face as his memories flooded back to the years he spent ensuring the Zardic Air Force was top notch.

As Z.M.1 began to come in and land word was received on-board that Chancellor Kent and Mrs. Kent had just arrived on the tarmac. Excellent timing indeed, the Director-General thought to himself. As the helicopter landed Vernon jumped to the ground before Z.M. 1 was completely on the ground with a kid-like smile across his face. Standing as any good husband would waiting for the helicopter to fully land so he could aid Michelle off the helicopter. As the couple walked away from the helicopter a small crew of staffers gathered up the Director-General and his wife's belongings and ensured they were put upon Zardic 1, the Director-Generals state-of-the-art and highly classified plane.

Seeing Chancellor Kent and his stunning wife standing by their motorcade Director-General Gould waved warmly to them and motioned for the pair to come over to the red-carpet laid upon the tarmac which lead up to the planes door. As Chancellor Kent approached the Director-General stood with his hand extended. The Director-General still wore his Air Force officer outfit; somewhat a point of contention in the local papers since his election victory. "Chancellor Kent, thank you very much for coming." The Director-General quickly turned his attention to Mrs. Kent whom he gave a kiss on the cheek. "Mrs. Kent, as stunning as ever. As well, I do thank you for your ability to meet with us-you both have my deepest apologies on the delay."

MessageKent reached out to the Director General and gave him a firm hand shake. “Not a problem at all sir. Glad we could finally get together face to face Director.” Kent then turned to Mrs. Gould and gave his most charming smile. “ Mrs. Gould what a lovely outfit, The Director General is a lucky man.” With that the four continued down the red carpet with the two women in the middle flanked by their husbands on either side. Cameras flashed along the way as reporters captured this historic moment. After a brief pause for one last final shot the four arrived at the foot of the plane and waved goodbye to the press and boarded Zardic 1.

Kent started in “So Vernon, You don’t mind do you?”
“By all means feel free” Replied the Director General.

“Anyway, Vernon, Let’s say we let these lovely women go get acquainted a bit more and we can sit and talk, I’m sure that they don’t want to be bored to death by listening to us.”

Mrs. Kent then gave her husband a kiss goodbye and shook the hand of the D.G. and then grabbed Mrs. Gould by the hand and drug her along like two school girls running across the playground. Mr.Kent let out a hearty laugh, “Ha ha, There goes trouble.”

“Take a seat Vernon, let me grab you a drink, Bourbon ok?”

MessageIn Retrospect:

The Director-General had a public reputation as a cold-calculating machine, devoid of emotion and absolutely ruthless. These illusions of course he knew be shattered quickly upon meeting the Chancellor and his wife. Gould of course worried for a moment or two how the media's portrayal of himself would have influenced Mr. and Mrs. Kent. Of course there was public perceptions about Mr. and Mrs. Kent as well. Though Vernon was quite outside the social circles of the social or political elites and never had time for such gossip. You could learn more from a handshake or salute than everything you could read in a paper about a politician, Gould thought to himself. And in this case, it seemed Mr. Kent was in good standing, the Director-General smiled broadly.

As the cameras flashed at a fever pitch both Mr. and Mrs. Gould did their best to smile and be proper in their behavior. This was a different world for the couple who had held so close to privacy for most of their lives. No doubt the Kents would have picked up on a bit of the awkwardness as the Director-General and his First Lady were expected to act the part for the people. Doing what was often best Vernon sliced the air with a quip, "Indeed, today we are all celebrities it seems." He felt a pinch at his arm from Michelle.

On Board:

The Director-General's right eye opened further as his left narrowed when the Chancellor told him to have a seat. Vernon had barely used the plane in his time in office, most unusual the D.G. began to think. Though with the mention of bourbon the D.G. smiled. "Now I know why Mr. Rothchild kept you around. It's more than ok, on the rocks please and I believe there are some lovely glasses that Mr. Rothchild kept in here somewhere. I admit, I'm still finding all perks to the job." The Director-General laughed.

Vernon walked over to the mid-section of the executive compartment and walked over to the rather posh seat placed in the center of the executive compartment. Looking down at it with a bit of a frown on his face, Mr. Gould began to unbutton his AF suit-coat. Turning to look back at the Chancellor the Director General took his coat off and laid it over the back of the chair. The Director-General walked over to the chairs surrounding the presumably Director-General's chair and took a seat. Vernon reached at his sleeves and unbuttoned both of his shirt-sleeves and rolled them up one-fold.

"Let me say again Bruce, I am very sorry that such a delay took place between the last election and today. I have no one to blame but myself. I hope you understand. No doubt this bit of a respite will cause a sensation and be the end of the world for some of those god-damned bureaucrats. . ." The Director-General loosened up his tie after he had taken a drink. "Tell me Bruce, you've been in this business awhile. You started out with the Sel'Rakrya as I understand it....how did you make the transition?"

"Well i always had an interest in politics since i was young, and after being at Sel Rakrya awhile obviously i made contacts in the political sphere, and to make a long story short i fell in with the founding members of what would become the realist party, and i decided to take the leap." The Chancellor replied.

"Well, I tell you-that's quite a transition. You no doubt know of my background and I assure you, it's not been an easy transition into the spot-light. I'm not a politician, I never will be Bruce. . ." The Director-General took a notably larger drink.

"Oh my, excuse me-would you?" The Director-General asked as he stood up rather quickly and grabbed his suit-coat. Reaching into a few of the pockets as the medals clanged together he finally pulled out an envelope and handed it to Chancellor Kent. "I took the liberty of seeing that tomorrow night you and I have front-row seats at the Nexus for the fight; I believe it's Mike Scott up against Dhani Ibragamov. I know a lot of people in Kostandian Bay, it should be a wonderful time." The Director-General smiled meekly and walked back to his chair and took a seat.

MessageKent smiled. “ Excellent, I planned on having somebody back at HQ record this fight for me. The gift is much appreciated, couldn’t think of anybody better to share the seats with.”

“ I must admit Vernon, I don’t know a lot about you, well only your war record and political achievements, but I don’t know Vernon T Gould the man. I was a bit worried when Rothchild stepped aside that all our work would be swept aside, but so far you have put my mind at ease. I should have known better.“

“Our parties have worked well together which I must say is surprising, with yours being the oldest party and mine being the youngest. I look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship for a long time.”

“I figured that most likely the FRP would throw out another Rothchild or even Kostandian to be director general, but they chose you, why?”

The Director General said with a wry grin, “Perhaps my qualifications sealed the deal.”

Kent chuckled, “Your qualifications? C’mon Vernon im not some reporter, give me a straight answer.”

The Director-General smiled, "Indeed. With all due respect I have a tremendous debt of loyalty to the Kostandians. They are good people, some of the best. Sometimes being the best requires you stay away from the spotlight when it comes to the application of policy, doesn't it? Director-General Rothchild as well did our nation a great deal of good and both of us owe him a lot of respect. The reality is though my predecessor was a bit too cautious. There were some within the party who viewed our national policies as going on the wrong direction or worse yet, in no direction. I was asked by the Chairman to serve my nation as I have done all of my adult life; and that is why I am here now with you."

Kent took another sip of his drink, “Well sounds like we both want to get things done, that’s all that matters, and I have a feeling that there will be plenty to get done in the days ahead.” The Chancellor’s trademark smile disappeared from his face, “Many, many things to get done.”

Suddenly the loud cackle of Mrs.Kent’s laugh could be heard by the two men, and Kent’s smile returned, “I wonder what they are up to?”

“So Kostandian Bay, we must get a little fishing done while we are out there, I heard you have been known to catch a few fish in your hayday.”

MessageThe Director-General was pleased to see his small gesture of goodwill had been delightfully received by the Chancellor. As Mr. Kent pressed onward the D.G's thoughts were laid intently upon Mr. Kent's line of questioning. It may have been true that Mr. Kent didn't know the man that was Vernon Gould, very few did indeed but, Mr. Gould had suffered from mixed information upon coming info office about the state of loyalties with the Chancellor. So far it would have seemed in Vernon's judgment he had found an unsuspecting ally.

"Indeed Mr. Kent, I fear too many things need done and done quickly. Director-General Rothchild in his last few years was all but disconnected entirely from the problems on the ground sadly. And his main informant and colleague Minister Rawlins-bloody hell how the man is still alive astounds me. Don't get me wrong, Rawlins is one of a kind-I'm not sure where this party or this nation would be without him. Trust me Bruce, I'm under considerable pressure from the political wing of the party to put a younger and more dynamic face in the position. Tough with the names I've been given, I just don't feel comfortable with the applicants as of yet..." The Director-General took a drink.

"Rawlins is severely misunderstood. People think he's the big dove in the party and keeps the Kostandian and Rothchild camps in check. . ." The Director-General laughed. "The truth couldn't be farther removed, you know? I grimace to think of the blood Rawlins has on his hands through his instrumental work at the Sel'Rakrya. . ." The Director-General looked to Mr. Kent quite intently. Vernon had long held an unpopular view about the government spooks and was quite contentious in private meetings over whom the Sel'Rakrya answered to. "Tell me Bruce, do you think the Sel'Rakrya operating under the radar and answering only to the Foreign Minister is wise? Of course, the Sel'Rakrya is available unto all of us in the government but, ultimately the buck stops with Minister Rawlins and more importantly Mr. Kostandian. . ." The Director-General took a drink and listened intently as the Chancellor spoke on the issue of Sel'Rakrya.

"I presume you've been briefed on the situations in Hobrazia and Beitneyu. . ." The Director-General looked to his Chancellor for a nod; he knew without asking the Chancellor was fully aware of the situations. "I'd be keen to hear your views on both frankly. All week I've been receiving reports from all over Terra and right now it seems these are the most pressing. The Hobrazia situation..." The Director-General shook his head in disgust, "...we bloody well should have been carpet-bombing them as soon as those Saiserist scum took over. Democratically elected or not, their trouble!" The Director-General nearly snarled at the mention of the Saiserists. Mr. Kent couldn't have been more clear as to how Vernon felt about them.

"Beitneyu on the other hand is just a maelstrom of problems and always has been. Really with all the separatist movements within that one nation and Luthori's influence to the North with the constant pressure from Pontesia and Barmenia; it's a quagmire if there ever was one. . ." The Director-General was cut-off as one of the staffers aboard Zardic 1 came into the executive quarters where Mr. Kent and Mr. Gould set. With the nod of the head from Vernon the staffer came into the foray and bowed respectfully to the Chancellor. "Director-General, we've just received a call from the Foreign Minister-he'd like to speak with you." The staffer stood waiting.

"See that Bruce, the old bugger is even listening to us here..." The Director-General laughed. "Alright, bring me the phone." With that the staffer rushed off. "This will only take but a moment, forgive me Bruce..." The staffer returned in short-order and the Director-General seized the phone in his hand. "Speak..." The Director-General said stiffly as he spoke into the phone. The Director-General's eyes narrowed and his brow curled up to express a look of concern. "My my...what a loss Edward, I really am sorry. No, of course-you stay and tend to the family everything is alright here for now. I'll make sure we send over a fitting carepackage and please ensure our deepest condolences are expressed on behalf of myself, the Chancellor and the nation. Hold on one second Minister Rawlins..."

Vernon set the phone down and covered it up and glanced over to Bruce. "Former President Kynes of Lodamun has passed away....such a shame." The Director-General picked up the phone again, "Alright Minister Rawlins, what else is there-I know you wouldn't be calling me to notify me of something I'd read in the papers." A few moments of silence went past as the Director-General listened into the phone. "Alright Edward, I'll talk to the Chancellor about this and I will let you know in short order, ok?" With that the Director-General handed the phone back over to the staffer who had stood at attention for the duration. "Thank you, if any other calls come-I'm not here nor is the Chancellor; got it?" The Director-General looked to the staffer who nodded approvingly.

"Mr. Kent, it seems the state of government here is assuredly a well oiled machine. . ." The Director-General topped off his drink and stood to his feet and walked to the wet-bar. "May I get you another Bruce, you may need it..." The Director-General poured the drinks in silence and walked back to Bruce handing him his drink and then finding his seat once more. "It would appear that old git Rawlins got wind of my on-goings attempts to establish back-channel communications with various groups in Beitneyu through the Sel'Rakrya. No doubt he is quite stunned how I pulled that off though thankfully he is most agreeable to what has been put into motion and now we've got a response back. The Tadrakian Resistance of Beitenyu has taken to the side of supporting the rightful government of Beitneyu and as a benefit this includes keeping Beitneyu and C.Z.P. in the realm of the Axis Alliance. The Tadrakian Resistance is an outlier group, unaffiliated-new comers in fact." The Director-General slowed down a bit to ensure Mr. Kent was catching everything.

"I believe the Tadrakian Resistance has around 130,000 paramilitary units ready to ensure that the separatists in Padrilkan don't get out of hand. The leader of the resistance a man by the name of Zurest Vorder has been keen to our discussions and as Rawlins has confirmed Mr. Vorder is in need of armaments, equipment, transport and some air-craft. Not something hard to do by any stretch though, while I know this is quite a lot of information to digest especially so quickly-I'd like your thoughts..." The Director-General took a drink and awaited the Chancellor's turn to speak.

MessageKent had been listening intently while The Director General Spoke, many media around Zardugal view Kent as a
former frat boy who simply fell into the position of Chencellor because of having friends in the right places.
Those who close to him knew that nothing could be further from the truth. Kent is a shrewd, calm, and calculating
man who enjoys having others underestimate him.

Well Vernon, as far as Sel'Rakrya is concerned, as you know I used to work with those chaps, I think the current way they work, answering only to the Foreign Minister and such has worked out quite well and I would not have it any other way. That is only because the man they awnser to (Rawlins) is the type of man who does what is best for the country and does not let his ego get in the way of making the tough decisions. He is up there in age though and when he does finally call it quits i feel we should re evaluate that relationship and either change who they report to or ensure the next man we put in that position will not abuse that power.

Kent then paused and went to take a sip of bourbon, but it was all gone... The Director General then continued on, Kent listened intently, but the lingering thought of an empty cup was eating away at him. Kent continued anyway though.

"Well as far as Hobrazia goes sir, I could not be in more agreeance with you. Nova Terra must be contained and eventually eradicated from the face of beautiful Terra. The whole organization deserves to be squashed under the heels of the Axis boot."

Kent had known before this meeting ever took place that the two would agree on this issue given Gould's history and his own feelings about Nova Terra and the Saiserists.

The discussion was about to continue when the staffer came in with the phone. Kent was quite annoyed because he finally felt that he was making ground on learning about Gould and he hated the fact that this was being interrupted. Kent pretended not to be listening to the phone conversation but really he was paying painstaking attention to every word.

"Wow what a blow, Kynes was a good man, Ill have Serena send his wife a letter expressing our condolances. Any word on when the funeral will be? Perhaps one of us should attend?"

Kent's eyes followed the Director General as he poured more drinks, FINALLY, he thought to himself.

"Yes the situation in Beitneyu is indeed sticky. Excellent news about the Tadrakian resistance. We should do all we can to support the charasmatic Vorder. We will have General Dragic take care of all the details as far as getting them the equipment they need. We should also send some advisors to the region to help train the resitance, no point in giving them all that equipment if that dont know how to use it and to make sure we have reliable eyes and ears on the ground."

"Let me say Vernon, im glad you are the one im working with now. I wouldnt have anybody else on this plane with me."

Kent then set his drink down and waited for the Director General to continue....

MessageThe Director-General was quite attentive to the advise and consul he was receiving from Chancellor Kent as he spoke. There was a definite spark of heightened interest when Mr. Kent made reference to Sel'Rakrya. The organization had very much taken to having a life of its own. It existed and consumed itself with no oversight, operating behind closed doors and without consent of anyone other than Minister Rawlins. Indeed the Director-General agreed with Mr. Kent's assessment of Rawlins tenure in his post and nodded approvingly.

"Well, I can't speak for all of the F.R.P. in saying there is quite a desire to see a new cabinet formed. I can't say any of those seeking the new cabinet are gunning for anyone other than Rawlins either. . ." The Director-General took a drink as he let that idea linger for a moment. "Frankly, I don't know if I know another person other than Leighton Kostandian to handle the job as well as Rawlins has and I can tell you without much doubt Mr. Kostandian won't been keen on such an idea."

"It is a funny world we live in Bruce. . ." Vernon took another drink. "The media thinks I'm a cold, cruel and more robot than human. They brand you with all sorts of tags too as we both know. Yet we have Minister Rawlins who is a celebrated diplomat in nearly every country and he has more blood on his hands than either one of us could manage. Actually reminds me of something Andrew said to me when I accepted the post as Director-General…" Vernon stared off to the sides of Bruce as he spoke. "He said a man of my profession you can give a pistol to and he'll leave the room. Then he told me he didn't have a pistol. . ." Vernon was clearly lost in thought over what the former Director-General has meant exactly with his rather cryptic message.

The Director-General stood up once more to freshen his drink and motioned to Mr. Kent seeing if he needed a bit more. "You are too generous Mr. Kent. . ." Vernon replied to the very kind compliment paid by the Chancellor. "I'm no more than a servant of the nation, Bruce. People have forgotten what the F.R.P. has done. Indeed, you are one of the newest political factions to have been born under our watch though, your backbenchers are not the uncivilized scum the F.R.P. has had to stand against for centuries. People have forgotten the brutal and bloody reign of the Saiserists and Confederates. This nation as it stands today more powerful than it ever has been was forged in the heat of battle; no doubt one of our greatest strengths as a Federation."

"I will not be able to attend President Kynes funeral alas. He was indeed a good man and it's a great loss. Though Lodamun is still within the hands of Jonathen's family which makes me feel a bit better. Rawlins trusts them, and that says something-the man doesn't even speak to his own daughter you know?" The Director-General looked to Bruce to see if any flicker came across his face. It was a very well guarded secret as to whom Rawlins daughter was. The Sel'Rakrya had been used by Rawlins at points to ensure the media didn't print various stories that would call attention to his family; for good cause no doubt. Occasionally an article would creep up in the Z.W.P. that no one within the government could stop that often accused and suggested that H. Leighton Kostandian and Adriana McNamara, Minister Rawlins daughter and CEO of Apex-Grunman, we're lovers for a lack of any other term.

"I will ask Michelle to go to the funeral of course. If you wish to go, that is your call. Personally I feel if Minister Rawlins is there we have done enough. I'm not sure if Andrew is going, I suspect he will be. As well I think a fitting monument to Mr. Kynes and his role with Rawlins in resolving the last war with Cobura would be in order. I know a few firms who would undertake such a project and naturally the government would pay for it. What do you think?" The Director-General asked as he walked back to his seat.

"In respect to Hobrazia, as I understand it we're helping funnel weapons and arms into the First Party on the border with Luthori. With the damnable G.P.O. sitting and waiting for an excuse to act against the Axis in anything we do-we must tread lightly. I tell you, I'm growing tired of this détente with the G.P.O. Sure, the facts are a bit opaque but, there is no denying Nova Terra and G.P.O. are working together to some extent; and frankly that's all I need to know to inform my view. As Commander of the Axis I've made my feelings clear on this issue to the Chairman and I know General Dragic holds my view as well."

"Now the situation in Beitenyu, this separatist faction was once a member of Nova Terra and just within the last week they've changed their political parties name to align themselves with the G.P.O. Seems to me this is a pretty clear signal. Of course the Chair of the G.P.O. has said he won't respond to anything until the government of Beitenyu takes a position. Though any thinking person would know quite well that this is just a ploy. The G.P.O. knows Beitenyu is an Axis nation and lead by an Axis General at the present. It all smells of an attempt to get us entangled in a conflict whereupon the G.P.O. can have the international community on its side, well Bruce-I won't let that happen on my watch."

"As far as supporting any of the paramilitaries in Beitenyu, I admit I am very cautious about such undertakings. There is so much instability in that area it's truly absurd. I would definitely like to speak to General Dragic before we make any concrete decisions. And as far as getting the equipment into Beitenyu that's not really an issue. We'd have the blessings of the government of Beitenyu and even if we didn't the north of the country is held by Luthori still. Which begs the question, how long before the royals getting antsy in their holdings and see fit to go in and settle this regional issue. I can't see anything good coming out of that. "

"If things continue as they are, I think the best thing we can do is ensure the Beitenyu government imposed a blockade upon itself and disallows any ships into their ports without direct consent from the government. If the government of Beitenyu were to undertake such an action; I will have no hesitation in sending the 3rd Naval Fleet to stiffen up the blockade's effect. Though even a blockade doesn't solve the issue of the separatists getting support in from Barmenia or Pontesia."

"I do agree with you on one point in specific, we have got to get some feet on the ground in Beitenyu to get a better picture of what in the hell is going on there. The Z.A.F. has been for the last six-months operating covertly over the airspace of Pontesia and Barmenia; so far we've detected nothing of suspect. There is a lot of ethnic hostilities along the boarders and we do know from the Foreign Ministry there are some rather unsavory tactics being employed by the governments of Barmenia and Pontesia in respect to the Jews. I don't believe a word anymore of the intelligence estimates coming in from Beitenyu; they change more than the damn wind does on their assessments." The Director-General's frustration was obvious.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Director-General smiled warmly at the sound of Mrs. Kent's laughter. "Indeed, who knows what those two are going on about. I forgot to mention by the way, tomorrow night while we're at the fight I had my aide arrange for our better halves to be pampered a bit at one of those day-spas. Never got the appeal of that stuff myself, though it sure makes the wife go easy on me. Hopefully that'll keep both of them occupied while we conduct the business of the Federation. . ." Vernon let out a boisterous laugh.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"As well Bruce…I have a feeling that our trip won't go unnoticed by some of the locals. I've tried to make sure when we land there is no air-traffic nor reporters near. I really don't want to get tracked down by Mr. Kostandian." Once again the Director-General laughed. He knew though without much doubt that Mr. Kostandian had unquestionably been tipped off by Brandi that the Director-General and Chancellor would be shuttling off to Kostandian Bay which inevitably meant that the F.R.P's reclusive Chairman was going to track the Director-General and Chancellor down one way or the other.

MessageChancellor Kent had a look of great consternation on his face. This was definately a trying time to live in.
Then his mind wandered to Serena and his son Wayne, and he was glad that he was in a position to influence
such a time and glad that he had men around him who he could trust. He rose out of his chair and began to pace as he spoke.

"Yes, The Realists would not be opposed to the idea of a new cabinet either. Of course they are gunning for Rawlins, it would be a mystery if they werent. Everybody knows the time is nearing where he will have to step aside. You have the advantage of being able to 'Keep the dogs at bay' as it were. If Kostandian wont do it we must make sure that we have somebody we can control in such a key position."

"Speaking of Ole Rawlins, yes having him attend Kynes funeral should be good enough. A monument would not be out of order considering all the two accomplished together. Something small yet fitting, i think would be best."

Kent returned to his seat and took a deep breath. Strangely it felt as if a weight had just fallen onto his shoulders
which he had never experienced before.

"Hobrazia.....We're damned if we do and damned if we dont. Blasted Nova Terra, they are like cockroaches. We squish them here in Zardugal and they pop up somewhere else even stronger. That is why we must continue to provide weaponry to the First Party via Luthori. As far as the "Global Peacekeeping Organization", Kent let out a laugh as he said it. I too am growing tired of them. They are working together with Nova Terra Undoubtedly and as such should be treated like the terrorist cockroaches that they associate themselves with. You will have my full support in minimizing and eradicating these
thugs."

Kent sat upright back in his chair and looked intently to The Director General.

"Ah yes a good spa treatment for the ladies would be most excellent i think. I believe we should arrive to the fight a bit early and get some photos with the fighters give them a bit of encouragement, should be good for the morale of the people.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kent laughed, "Im sure despite our best laid plans, Mr.Kostandian will impose his own upon us."

MessageVernon set quietly finishing off his drink as Mr. Kent took to the floor. Vernon let out an inaudible sigh, comforted for a moment in seeing he was not in this alone in the political arena. An arena the D.G. had next to no experience with. Sure, issuing military directives is one thing but, running a nation and in the footsteps of such enormous figures. The idea wouldn't have been conceivable to Mr. Gould for the bulk of his life.

"Well Bruce, in order of less menacing to the worse. . ." Vernon smiled. "Indeed, a monument and an endowment in his name would be in good taste. Rothchild and Rawlins will do us our nation justice in their for certain superb remarks at the various events. It will be good for maintaining our relations with Lodamun. I don't know too much about Jonathan's son Gregory-the current President. More importantly, I don't know what he knows. I suspect Rawlins is making it quite clear that he's not truly in league with the Axis and our policies as a party. I suppose that's what it takes in a good statesman; the ability to argue any side and hold any position as it is so needed." The Director-General smiled.

"I'm grateful for how forthright you've been with me on the cabinet issue. It will come soon, I've had my staff looking into it and I know Chairman Kostandian has been screening names and giving me suggestions. I'm not overly worried about the future of the Foreign Ministry's executive; I'm sure Kostandian; or the two of us or all us will sort it out. While on the topic, what are your backbenchers currently feeling like in respect to the cabinet makeup?" The D.G. gave Mr. Kent an opportunity to respond before moving on.

"It goes without saying how I feel about our international cockroach problem. . ." Vernon laughed. ". . .What I think we should focus on is looking at our laws, what steps we can take within the scope of the law that can protect us from any future possibilities that a splinter group arises here in our backyard. As well, we should promote the same policies within all nations we maintain close ties with, most assuredly. It is better to be preemptive in such matters, I believe." The Director-General spoke with confidence; his tone changed slightly harkening back to his record within the Z.A.F.

Message"We should be about to descend…" Vernon said as he stood up from his chair and seized his coat. The sound of all the Director-General's military awards was something he quite often got tired of himself and ensured he would never be able to sneak up upon someone. Gould did not have to wear his military uniform per protocols long ago established for men and women whom move from a purely military position to one of public-office. Gould would maintain the image of a leader in Zardugal not afraid to tout his military experience was a trend he would gladly buck.

No sooner had Vernon finished buttoning his coat a staffer appeared from the cabin off the executive suite. The Director-General gave a swift nod to acknowledge the staffer. "Sir, we will be landing in 15 minutes." Vernon looked to Bruce and winked, his timing was spot-on, quite a natural instinct for Gould. The staffer remained at attention and Gould gave the young man a look as if telling him to get on with it. "Yes Sir, well you see we've received word that while the airport is closed down for you and your parties arrival; the press has been tipped off and is waiting on the tarmac as we speak." Gould let out a laugh, his prediction was spot-on once more. He waved the staffer off.

"Well, it looks like Mr. Kostandian will get what he wants. Mr. Kent, I do apologize for this. I'm sure your much more used to this sort of fanfare than I am. All those damnable flashes drive me crazy…" Gould took to his seat. Meanwhile both Mrs. Gould and Mrs. Kent were informed by staffers as well. "Bruce, I will tell you one thing about Mr. Kostandian. Don't underestimate the man for a second. There are two people in this country who know more than me and it's Rawlins and Kostandian; you don't fuck with Kostandian-period." Vernon's voice clearly denoted his sincerity.
-------------------------------------------------------
As the plane came to a rest on the runway Vernon quickly jumped up from his chair. Michelle stood up as well and seen to fixing her husband's collar and tie. When the young staffer returned from the foray he stood at attention at his post just as he had prior to the plane taking off. The red-carpet awaited. Vernon looked to Bruce and smiled, "I'm guessing we should step out together first." Leading the way Vernon walked to the door and walked out to the platform to the flashes of hundreds of cameras and the lights from all the major media outlets.

Vernon stood for a moment alongside Director of State Kent waving, afterwards Mrs. Gould and Mrs. Kent joined their husbands on the platform for a few more moments doing the formalities that Vernon had sought to avoid. Vernon didn't hesitate, he took his wife's arm and began walking down the steps to the tarmac. At the bottom of the staircase was the customary Zardic Marines; Gould gave both men a salute as he stepped onto the tarmac. The lights and cameras made it nearly impossible to see in the low-light anything around though, there was no mistaking the lumbering figure of H. L. Kostandian walking over to greet the foursome.

H. L. looked to Vernon and nodded, but quickly turned his attention to Mr. Kent, the Director of State of the Federation of Zardugal. A man H.L. had yet to meet, but seemed to know enough about him to feel as if he had. H. L. extended his hand first to Mrs. Kent and brought her in for a peck on the cheek. "You look absolutely splendid Mrs. Kent, your husband is truly a lucky man. Mr. Kent…" H.L. turned to Bruce and extended his hand. "It's good to meet you finally. And it's even better to do it with my our dear and fearless leader Vernon. . ." H.L. winked at Bruce and smiled broadly. "Mrs. Gould, as always how you do it is beyond me." Michelle looked confused, "It has to be one daunting task to keep this fella propped up. I tell you Mr. and Mrs. Kent if there were ever any truth to the saying behind every great man is an even greater woman. . .It's right here with these two." H. L. was well adjusted to social-gatherings and his charisma had been a defining trait with his clout within the Federal-Republicans as well his surname.

H.L. went beyond normal means to ensure press didn't know about his dealings and living in Kostandian Bay ensured he could maintain this with an iron-fist. His connections and outright friendly relations with the media had and continued to play well and pay tribute to their friends within the F.R.P. "Now, shall we all pose for some more photos for the feral beasts?" H.L. smiled warmly at his jab at the press clearly in his pocket. Mr. Gould and his party made way for the pleasantries and more photo-ops. H. L. motioned for the Mr. and Mrs. Gould and Mr. and Mrs. Kent to follow him. He lead the way to his limousine and opened the door for all of the guests.

"It's a short-drive your hotel, I do not mean to impose. I'm sure the four of you are very eager to rest after the day and flight; we will not be long I promise." H.L. looked directly at Mrs. Kent and Gould with a smile as if to keep an unspoken promise. "I trust you kept Vernon from trying to take the controls of the plane on the way in, Mrs. Gould?" H.L. smiled as Mrs. Gould let out an uncharacteristically sincere laugh. "He can be a handful Mr. and Mrs. Kent, don't let that stoic face of his fool you one bit!" H.L. pointed towards the Director-General.

"Leighton, what is this all about?" Gould's smile had long-worn from his aptly said stoic expression after being apparently taken hostage by his parties Chairman.

"Oh Vernon, lighten-up. I can tell you've had a drink, I can smell it-don't get cranky with me. Tonight is a night for leisure, let us not burden your wives further with the nasty business the two of you subject them to. I've already made sure the hotels staff will be waiting on us and they shall whisk your lovely wives away and see to their needs. In the interim I'd just like a quick chit-chat with the two of you, bloody-hell this is the first time I've met Mr. Kent and Mrs. Kent, Vernon-your quite lucky I'm not demanding we get us some entertainers. . ." H. L. shot a wink to Bruce as Mrs. Gould gave Mr. Kostandian a slight slap to his shoulder.

MessageKent knew that the Director General was not comfortable with all the media being present, but for Kent this is where he felt he shined best. He loved the cameras and the flashes, he wouldn't have it any other way. He stood with the Director General proudly and waved to the cameras with his award winning smile that was known to make many a female follower swoon. Kent reached for his wife's hand and began down the steps with the DG and his wife. As they passed the Zardic Marines Mrs.Kent leaned over and whispered "Serious looking fellows." The Director of State chuckled, he loved his wife's sense of humor although it was a little known fact about her.

It was then that Kent noticed the domineering figure of H.L. Kostandian approaching. He was eager to meet the man and see if he couldnt get behind some of the cloaks that had been so carefully shielding the man in the media. Kent extended his hand to meet Kostandians, the grip was firm yet not menacing.

"So far so good", Though Kent.

After more photo ops they party arrived in the limo, Kent could tell that Vernons mood had shifted and he could sense that there might be some tension between the two faces of the FRP.

Kent wasnt sure exactly what to think of Kostandian at the moment, He would take some time to before deciding on whether or not he was an ally or somebody that he should keep at a distance. He knew one thing was for sure though, he was not intimidated by the man and he would hold his ground as an equal.
