Bill: People's Transport Service (Nationalisation Act)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Parti Socialiste National

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2759

Description[?]:

The purpose of this bill, contrary to popular belief, is not to restrict economic prosperity in the République Populaire Démocratique de Kanjor. As this government is well aware, Le Parti Socialiste National is very keen to promote growth in our Infrastructure and GDP.

This bill is in fact proposed to reduce the everyday costs to the citizens of the Union in terms of travel. Until now, our entire national transport industries have been credited as private business, however, Le Parti Socialiste National has, following an enquiry into travel prices, found that private transport services in our nation are far too unrestricted and their prices are, as a result, extortionate.

We are proposing that, to assist in our efforts to reduce taxes, and improve efficiency across our transport networks, the government seize control of the public transport industries in the République Populaire Démocratique de Kanjor and head them as nationalised industry. This is inclusive of the National Rail network, the public Buses and Trams and other, smaller public transport organisations more locally based.

This bill will allow us to control efficiency, maintain low prices and ensure standards are always met, while giving the République Populaire Démocratique de Kanjor more money for the treasury, enabling our government to lower taxes across the country.

MessageHow does this "reduce the everyday costs to the citizens"? What's the difference between paying for it through taxes and paying for it on the spot? You still pay for it. We don't really see any way that subsidizing the full cost of national transport is cheaper? You're robbing Peter to pay Paul, sometimes that is a necessary and desirable thing; we have no doubt that regular Kanjoriens are willing to pay for someone to go to work, but why should they then have to pay for Vagderriens to go to the beach, or visit their grandmother in Zanyal? Seems unnecessary and will set a bad precedent.

As for a single public national train system, could this instead by a change to a "federal" style where there is a national train system but private regional ones?

MessageNot really, were not increasing taxes to pay for the subsidies so they lose the cost of transport without adding taxes, it is a good suggestion.
