MessageIt is not the role of government to determine what information must be before the consumer, and any requirement that certain information be disclosed imposes additional costs on the seller, interferes with the right of individuals to freely buy and sell goods, and constitutes an initiation of force on the part of the government against food manufacturers. This proposal should be distinguished from a law banning the use of false information in the labeling of food and beverage products, as such an act would constitute criminal fraud and should be punished to the full extent of the law. Furthermore, if a consumer can demonstrate actual harm from what he or she reasonably believed was a safe food or beverage product, he or she can bring a lawsuit against the manufacturer in the courts. This proposal, while less intrusive than the current policy, nevertheless violates the fundamental right of individuals to engage in trade without the interference of the government. Therefore, the proposed legislation cannot in good conscience receive a vote of "yes" and should be replaced by a bill repealing any and all labeling requirements for food and beverages.

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
