Bill: Adoption Equality Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: The Liberal Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2764

Description[?]:

Adoption should no longer be considered an exclusively heterosexual practice. In an age where we growingly recognise the rights of homosexual couples, there should be no law that permits such couples from the adoption process. This bill recognises that the 'couple' is of vital importance to family life and stability, but that sexual preference should not be a determining factor in the process of adoption.

MessageWe believe children benefit from being brought up by a mother and father figure who are committed both to each other and the child. For this reason, we feel heterosexual couples, preferably married, are likely to provide better adoption placements.

MessageI am in full agreement of the Liberal Party with this proposal. There is no reason for limiting the chances for children to have a loving, caring family. The "mother and father figure" is just that - a figure. It is a role that most couples are capable of and looked for towards a family environment.
