MessageWe should never develop or use these terrible weapons. The use of these weapons could devastate civilian communities and the develpoment and storage of such weapons could have serious consequences for the environment and the health of our own citizens if there was a failure in the containment of the weaponised agents.
This law will prove to the world our good intentions and show that we are willing to take the steps needed to make the world a safer place.

MessageWe should research countermeasures if we aren't going to develop these weapons. We wouldn't support a bill that also disallowed research.

MessageAs long as we live in am imperfect world, we need to keep our options open as to responses to agression. We wish it were possible to support this bill, but we cannot.

MessageRLP: What would you think if it had been a proposal to sell off and/or destroy our current stocks while switching the funding into researching countermeasures to avoid the necessity of them?

MessageThe AAP cannot support legislation that disarms the nation... especially in light of some of our more 'volatile' neighbours.

MessageI am glad to see this country finally has another party in favour of biochemical disarmament! the last time i brought this up I was the only yes vote. This is something the LPE feels very strongly about and will support with pride.

MessageThis law will not prevent us from researching medicines that could be used to treat diseases that could be used as bilogical weapons, but it will prevent us from developing technologies that deliberately spread deadly diseases amongst the human population. Our scientists will also be able to research antidotes to poisonous chemicals. They will only be prevented from develpoing weapons using these chemicals or storing them in quantities needed to produce an effective weapon. So we will still be able to develop countermeasures to chemical and biological warfare.

MessageWe feel that it does ban countermeasure research, or it at least does not do enough to encourage it. However, we'll support this as better than the current situation. NBC weapons are unnecessary, ineffective, extremely expensive, and bad for our international image and trade.
