Bill: Anarch Anakrousite Reform Bill - National Intelligence

Details

Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2129

Description[?]:

The Anarch Anakrousite Party believes it has been folly to limit our governmental privilege to intervene in foreign nations, WHEN national security requires it.

We do not say we SHOULD intervene - just that we should NOT limit the potential to do so.

The AAP advocates returning the original 'Intelligence Agency' functionality as soon as possible, before our enemies capitalise on our weakness.

Message"Capitalise on our weakness"? This strengthens our intelligence agency! "Weakness" was throwing funds at other countries. Strength is consolidating funds to more effectively protect ourselves!

MessageWe need to free our intelligence agency to perform whatever missions may be required in the future. If that involves covert ops, so much the better.

MessageResponse to the PCP: It may seem counterimtuitive to PCP rationality, but not ALL issues are about the price-tag. Since MINIMAL covert ops were carried out overseas, the cost was also minimal. 'Consolidating funds', by disallowing overseas activity MAY save a small fraction of revenue, but it does nothing to ensure national security from disruptive forces beyond our borders.

Again - one has to look at the LANGUAGE of the Bill. This legislation is not ABOUT covert operations... it is about ALLOWING covert operations. Currently - we have managed to bind Likatonia into an impotent corner.

We should, AT LEAST, reserve the 'right' to covert operations, even if we never want to USE that right.

MessageYou've... got a point...

However, we maintain our stance. The current setup allows counterintelligence and surveilance - which can take place on other countries. If a country directly threatens us and attempts to destabilize us, then "counterintelligence" is going to be a blank check.

The law we advocates allows ANY action to be taken defensively. Meanwhile, we ban OFFENSIVE actions, and ONLY offensive actions. We have ALL the rights for DEFENDING ourselves.

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play".
