Private enterprises should bear the entire cost of their activities, including cleanup and waste disposal. This measure will essentially force them to adopt less wasteful procedures and care more about the effects of their activities by internalizing a previously government-subsidized externality. |

Message | And then we either use official sanctions or sue the frelling pants off them. Either of which does wonders to stop that sort of myopic thinking. It may be a little bit cheaper to dump the stuff than to pay for proper disposal, but it is enormously cheaper to pay for proper disposal than it is to pay to properly dispose of stuff you already paid to have dumped and clean up the immediate dumping area and clean up the surrounding area and pay a huge fine and get your ass sued. |
