Bill: Progressive Reform Bill - Formation Of The Likatonian Air And Space Agency (LASA)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Progressive Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2131

Description[?]:

This new space agency can conduct scientific research in outer space while also overseeing the private space-exploration companies. We feel this will also allow the Likatonian government to determine in which direction our space exploration goes, be it space telescopes, moon exploration, or interplanetary exploration.

MessageWe believe thet the direction of private space exploration should be determined by the market, not the government. Therefore, without a clearer explanation of the oversight this agency would give, we must regretfully vote against its formation.

MessageThis seems like a potentially expensive policy with absolutely no guarantee of a return on investment.

MessageWe support this bill, as we believe that not only will we gain possibly beneficial results from the actual experiment, but it will also give science in this country a much needed popularity boost. many more people will consider it as a career prospect if they see exciting and progressive science in the public eye, and scientists are a valuable 'human resource' which should be cultivated.

MessageAAP response to the PCP: SOmetimes, my friends, we must look below the balance sheet.

Not all 'returns on investment' will be black ink in the revenue column.

MessageScience is why we're opposing it. Private investors have more available capital for investment than the government.

The LPE raises a good point though. The government is better at being "visible", so to speak, and this bill would still be using private capital and initiative. Managed properly it might be improved. I guess I'm mostly worried about the SNAFU effect.
