Message | While we agree with the PUSD that privatization of the space industry can be a good thing, we believe that government can and should act as a strong patron of science and technological development. We therefore cannot accept this bill on the grounds that it would fully eliminate the state-owned space agency. |

Message | The state would still retain control of space exploration policy, inasmuch as permits are issued if and when a private space exploration company proves that their proposal is worthwhile researching. And there is nothing in this bill that forbids the state to continue as a patron of space exploration, should it be considered a worthwhile endeavour. What this bill does, however, is reducing the drain on the coffers of the state that a fully-fledged space exploration agency and its bureaucratic underpinnings represent. |

Message | It is not just control of a space program that the SJP is interested in, for control for its own sake is not justified, it is the active patronage of a space program and science in general. So, we are more interested in the following position: The government shall operate a space agency that contracts with and oversees private space-exploration companies. Nonetheless, we do see a point in the PUSD's mention of costs to government, and we would be willing to see an associated budget proposal outlining the amount of money saved by eliminating the public space program. |

Message | There is no reason why private space exploration companies should not profit from the funds of the Ministry of Science and Technology, provided that such subsidisation of a space program is considered worthwhile and of enough practical value to justify spending the money. |
