Bill: Removal of Censorship Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Novy Smer Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2131
Description[?]:
It is not the place of the state to decide what material can be broadcast. We already have legislation to prevent broadcasting of explicit material at times when children are likely to be watching. It is wrong to ban images of consensual adult activity outright. People should be able to see this material if they so wish. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy regarding sexually explicit material on broadcast television.
Old value:: Sexually explicit material is allowed, but violent or hard core pornography is banned.
Current: Sexually explicit material is not allowed, but nudity that is not sexually explicit is.
Proposed: All sexually explicit material is allowed on television.

Message | This will lead to societal and moral degradation, especially the 'violent' pornography part of the proposal. The PC vehemently rejects this piece of legislation. |
Date | 00:40:11, October 24, 2005 CET | From | Novy Smer Party | To | Debating the Removal of Censorship Bill |
Message | Violent pornography would be excluded as the bill specifically staes that we refer to scenes of consensual activities. |
Date | 00:44:19, October 24, 2005 CET | From | Novy Smer Party | To | Debating the Removal of Censorship Bill |
Message | We also refute the claim that there is anything immoral about pornography in itself. Morals are a private matter for private individuals anyway, not a matter for the state. |
Date | 00:52:51, October 24, 2005 CET | From | Ducal Delegation | To | Debating the Removal of Censorship Bill |
Message | If this Bill goes through, His Grace's eldest son's company will go out of business, because people will get the material they want free on TV rather than paying for it. We cannot destroy the livelihoods of talented and artistic people like this... Percy Waterman (Personal Secretary to the Grand Duke of Hikirena) |
Date | 05:50:33, October 24, 2005 CET | From | Progressive Liberal Party | To | Debating the Removal of Censorship Bill |
Message | We're concerned about the violent pornography component, however, we believe violent pornography could not be shown as it would involve illegal acts (ie. assault, rape) and therefore could not be shown. We'll support this. |
Date | 22:42:29, October 24, 2005 CET | From | Fenner Brockway Socialist Party | To | Debating the Removal of Censorship Bill |
Message | Whilst we believe this material should be legal on video and on encrypted channels, we have qualms about allowing it to be shown on broadcast television, even when restricted to particular hours of the day. |
