Bill: Repeal of Change of Pornography Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Democratic Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2815
Description[?]:
Although The LIberal Party of Rutania shares many ideals with the LDP, we feel this bill was misguided and unnecessary. For those who support small government and as little legislation as possible this should be a popular move. The old value - thal all pornography is legal, but only for adults - was sufficient. I understand there are already laws about sexual acts without consent. |
Proposals

Proposal[?] to change The distribution, purchasing and possession of material depicting pornographic acts.
Old value:: Pornography depicting consenting adults is legal for adults.

Message | We strongly support small government, but surely the LDP are not suggesting that the supposed 'right' or 'freedom' of depraved perverts to purchase and view pornography depicting rape or child sex-abuse is more important than the well-being and safety of the victims of these abominations. Small government is one thing, but allowing criminals to distribute footage of their sick acts for like-minded reprobates to enjoy is another entirely. This legislation is tantamount to state-sponsored rape and pedophilia. If the LDP truly support other legislation concerning non-consensual sex acts, why would they refuse to outlaw video footage depicting these acts; actively promoting and encouraging them? The correlation between the viewing of violent pornography and the actualization of rape and molestation is well established - a visual appetite of these abhorrent acts leads directly to the perpetration of the acts themselves. We call on the LDP to explain their position on this issue, as we can see no possible justification for allowing the sick-minded perverts of Rutania to freely indulge in their criminal fantasies, especially when the sexual acts that they enjoy are, themselves, among the most appalling crimes against humanity. |

Message | We cannot allow any form of pornography onto our streets, who will regulate this in the wider scale? We cannot risk our vulnerable people being caught up in any way with this 'culture'. Regretfully the NDPR would vote NO on this. |
Date | 18:59:59, September 09, 2009 CET | From | Rutanian Elitist Party | To | Debating the Repeal of Change of Pornography Bill |
Message | The REP supports this bill. Sexual acts, pornography are all dimensions belonging to the strictly individual sphere of a person. The government cannot have a moralistic stance, cannot influence the ethical or sexual orientations of the Rutanian citizens. As opposing moralism, we support this bill. We are sure that our police can ensure that pornography would be purchased by or distributed only to adults. |

Message | NDPR: A couple of questions: - What is your objection to the distribution of pornography? The law states it will only be to adults who wish to view it. - I'm interested to know why you think the people of Rutania are so vulnerable? Are you suggesting a protective nanny state? |

Message | How will we control the forms of pornography on show? What types of pornography are we talking about? Child? Animal? Suicidal? We need some sort of control over decency surely. |
Date | 23:32:17, September 09, 2009 CET | From | People's Party of Rutania | To | Debating the Repeal of Change of Pornography Bill |
Message | The PPR believe that any change to the current legislation would only create more victims within the Rutanian society. We believe it unethical to allow people to watch possible exploitation of vulnerable citizens. Could the LDP elaborate on the supposed benefits of the proposed bill? |
Date | 23:50:28, September 09, 2009 CET | From | Liberal Democratic Party | To | Debating the Repeal of Change of Pornography Bill |
Message | Of course, we welcome debate on this sensitive issue, in future, bills will, of course, have further debate before entering the voting stage. We don't believe in unnecessary legislation; that citizens should have as much freedom and liberty as possible, but we know that we require laws to enable a safe society. We are strongly against the expoitation of vulnerable citizens. Some of the hideous crimes sometimes in pornography are illegal. There are already laws against these crimes. Suicide is a crime. Sexual exploitation of minors is a crime. Viewing these crimes is a crime. Interestingly, NDPR, beasility is not a crime in Rutania and I would be happy to work with any party wishing to address this. Note that we would support a bill to make beasility illegal but not a bill to make pornography with beasility illegal. It is unneccesary and duplicating legislation. We may be disgusted by certain aspects of pornography, but is not the job of government to condemn on purely moralistic grounds. We have laws that already have made these issues, we all find abohorrent, illegal. |

Message | The PPR fully excepts the notion of freedom and liberty for the people of Runtania. However our opposition to this bill is justified by preventing harm to others, the minority benefactors of this bill and their liberty is not sufficient justification. |
Date | 01:02:18, September 10, 2009 CET | From | Rutanian Heritage Party | To | Debating the Repeal of Change of Pornography Bill |
Message | The discrepancy between the LDP's opposition to abhorrent sex acts and, on the other hand, their willingness to allow these same acts to be depicted and distributed with the sole intent that depraved perverts may enjoy them, is troubling indeed. How can these two seemingly oppossing positions be reconciled? It makes little sense to outlaw these acts, yet allow their depiction in pornographic material which essentially encourages individuals to perform these acts themselves. |
