Bill: Farm Size Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Revolutionary Workers Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2822

Description[?]:

Introduced by Martha Lewis, agricultural spokesperson on behalf of the Executive Committee.

PREAMBLE:

1. The Senate recognises that farm sizes are not regulated
2. That many worker co-operative and local farms are being squeezed out by monopoly capitalist companies, increasing the rate of unemployment, including small-scale organic farmers who cannot compete.
3. That this is one of the only agricultural measures which is not left up to local governments.
4. That during the jobs crisis we should allow local governments and people to be able to deal with these problems rather than through a top-down structure.

Therefore we believe this matter be left up to local government.

MessageWe cannot support this bill, even though it involves devolution of government. It is, in reality, devolving the infringement of the right to own property.

The OP are under the impression that the economic crisis ended over a decade ago. (Has another started since I came back?)

OOC: Also, isn't it improper grammar in the proposal? "Farm size regulations is imposed...?" Hmm.

MessageOur position on this matter reflects that of the Orange Party - while the Rutanian Heritage Party favours the decentralization of government authority in almost all circumstances, the infringement of private property ownership is a different matter.
Property ownership is a principle deeply embedded in human nature, and one that should be protected against all forms of State invasion, lest the most fundamental freedom that underpins our society and serves as a check against tyrannical government is trampled. In short, a society in which the owner of private property no longer has full dominion over it is a society in which there is no limitation on State power, and in which there is no longer a clear line between private and public spheres. This prospect should sound the alarm bells for anyone who recognizes the benefit of a civilized and well-ordered society.

MessageWe believe that private property ownership should be free from government interference and, as such, would not support this bill.
