Bill: Education Act 2835
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Democratic Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2837
Description[?]:
We propose a comprehensive change in the education system in Rutania. We should have publically funded schools, that give the best possible education to our children and young adults. We should not have religious schools or charter schools. Everyone should be equal when starting their education and should not be able to 'buy' a priviliged education. We should operate a national grading system so someone from Delvar can compare results with someone from Bozarland. The current system is too chaotic with regions having their own testing. Our children should never be made to sing the national anthem and certainly not every day. This bill proposes fundamental changes to our education system. So, of course, we welcome debate and views from our fellow senators on the issue. Tony Manson Education & Culture Liberal Democratic Party |

Message | We fervently oppose this legislation and every last one of its articles. It is difficult to describe our position for all 9 of them seperately in any great detail, but our opposition to this legislation can be summarized by the following: This legislation will allow the federal government to usurp the authority of local governments, shifting control over education further away from local families and communities. It will eliminate most private sector schools and all charter schools, which will drastically reduce the efficiency and standards of the school system and end merit-based funding, and will give parents fewer options. It will also force children - whose parents may not believe they are at an appropriate age or level of maturity - to take sexual education classes, when this should clearly be the responsibility of the family. It will ban corporal punishment in schools universally, making it extremely difficult, if not impossible for teachers to discipline students effectively. It will ban religious schools, impinging the prerogative of parents to have their children educated in an institution that teaches in a manner consistent with their faith. Aside from all of this, it will place an unsustainable and unnecessary burden on tax-payers, who will be forced to foot the bill for the complete funding of public universities and schools, as well as fully subsidized tuition. This legislation is an assault on Rutania's schools and families, and nothing more. It is the LDP's tyrannical attempt to impose a radical ideological agenda on our schools universally, giving the government a total monopoly over their curriculum and every aspect of their management and regulation. |
