Bill: Survival Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Socialist Front

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2135

Description[?]:

We must provide sustainable living for the unemloyed.
So as to keep them from taking serious advantage of our offer, we must receive proof that the unemployed is searching for work (letters, intervies, and so on).
The unemployed must also accept jobs that provide a living-wage or more.
If no such proof is given, this means they are not trying to sustain themselves, and merely taking advantage of the government's benevolence and shall then be cut off.
Unless of course they do start valuing life and begin searching again.

MessageThis proposal contains a fundamental flaw. It requires that these individuals to search for work. However, it makes no requirement for job acceptance. Therefore, it still lacks power to ensure that people fail to take "advantage of the government's benevolence."

We will vote against this bill.

MessageI think the proposal is a very balanced one. We will support.

OOC: by social democratic standards, this law is very 'right leaned' ...

MessageWhat do you consider to be a living wage? And please explain in detail. Will it be enough to cover car payments (because people might have to drive to better jobs), rent/mortgage, food, gas, electricity and phone? In my experience, living wages do nothing more than place someone right above the poverty line.

MessageWell, obviously, by definition a "living wage" is a bit above the poverty line, as it is enough for the recipient to live; to sustain him/her self.
We would like to give more than this.
But are willing to compromise, along with other reasons.

MessageTo answer to ASP, ' a very basic subsistence income' doesn't allow someone to pay its car payments.

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators.
