Message | Here you go! Below you can find the message(s). The Liberal Party: ***Message from the Office of the Vice President*** Minister of Foreign Affairs Carle Hugo, The Northern Area Treaty Organization is putting into effect a new campaign named "Umbrella." The goal of this campaign is to extend NATO's reach all throughout the world. We are officially requesting your government to consider leasing NATO at least one military base in your territory. Financial arrangements can be made at a later time. Please consider our request. Thank you, Kathryne Lincoln III Vice President of the United Republics of Lodamun Chairman of the Council of NATO To the Right Honourable ms. Kathryn Lincoln III, vice-president of the United Republics of Lodamum and Chairwoman of the Council of NATO! Greetings! Your message intrigues and interests me, but I know to little of NATO to even consider saying yes at this point. Please tell me more about NATO. What is it exactly? What is its goal? Who are members of it? Is it a offensive or defensive military organisation? Financial agreements have to be made in advance, if and when our country decides leasing NATO a base. But first: provides us with more info so we can debate and decide. With regards, Mr. Carle Hugo Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Theocratic Kingdom of Drania ***Message from the Office of the Vice President*** Minister of Foreign Affairs Carle Hugo, It would be a pleasure to tell you more about NATO. NATO stands for Northern Area Treaty Organization. Our goal is to maintain peace ans stability throughout the world but most importantly, protect the sovereignty of our member nations. NATO has been in existence since the late 2100s in some form or another, making it the oldest military alliance in the world. We are a defensive alliance and our track record clearly shows that we have not gone to war for offensive reasons in any instance. To us, war is of last resort and we seek diplomatic resolution to any conflict. To us, diplomacy is key to peace and peace is key to stability. You can see the list of members here: http://classic.particracy.net/viewtreaty.php?treatyid=1597 I hope I have answered your questions clearly and directly. If I have not, please feel free to contact my office once again and I'd be happy any further questions you many have. Sincerely, Kathryne Lincoln III Vice President of the United Republics of Lodamun Chairman of the Council of NATO To the Vice President of the United Republics of Lodamun, Chairperson of the Council of NATO. Thank you for your quick response. It is reassuring to know, that NATO is a defensive organisation that puts diplomacy first. We do have some questions though: It is necessary for our country te become members of NATO in order to lease a military base? What price are you willing to pay for this lease? What would be the term/periode of time of this lease. Surely it cannot be indefinitely. Mr. Carle Hugo Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Theocratic Kingdom of Drania ***Message from the Office of the Vice President*** Minister of Foreign Affairs Carle Hugo, I'd be happy to answer those questions. No, your country does not have to be a member of NATO to do so. In fact, member nations do not "lease" bases to us but rather "host" our bases. The difference being that we pay no compensations for the latter. The price depends on a wide range of factors. Among those are the type of military installation, the size, the location, ect. However, I can assure you that we will pay a fair price that is satisfactory to you and us. The term of the lease can also be negotiated. We only have one requirement and that is that each lease to be at least for twenty years or more. We chose this number for logistical purposes given the fact that the movement of troops and resources is very costly and time consuming. But again, those terms are negotiable and will depend on many other factors as well. No, we do not want an indefinite lease. That's not only unfair for your country, it is not very beneficial economically for us either. I hope I have answered your questions as clearly as possible. If I have not, please feel free to contact my office once again and I'd be happy any further questions you many have. Sincerely, Kathryne Lincoln III Vice President of the United Republics of Lodamun Chairman of the Council of NATO |

Message | This has the potential to drag us into a war, even if we're not part of an alliance. Should NATO enter into a conflict, their enemy (or enemies) will likely target the military base in Drania and cause great harm to our nation. It is for this reason that we must respectfully decline. Message | Greetings, We can see your point, but dare to disagree. Leasing a base to NATO (not joining it) could get us some powerful friends or allies. In our view, that wouldn't hurt Drania or the Dranians. Of course we prefer peace over war. And of course we shouldn't get ourselves dragged into some war that isn't ours, but Terra is much bigger then Drania and we are certainly not alone in it, nor are we safe from any harm on some faraway, secluded island. Our country is part of this world and we should face the fact, that sometimes this world is violent, nasty and full of war and turmoil. If and when trubble reaches our shores, powerful friends and allies might come in very handy. Isolationism will only get us so far. We need some friends and allies abroad. Besides, NATO is a very respectable, defensive organisation and we would only be leasing a base for 20 years. The risks would be minimal. Even if the arguments above do not convice you, how about the financial aspect. We could use the extra money to lower some taxes and thus give a boost to our nationl economy. Message | It would be more appropriate for Drania to rely on other monarchies for defence. Let us establish our bonds with them instead. I know of several monarchies that would jump to our defence. |

Message | We fail to see how and why the defence by other Monarchies would be so much better. What would be the great advantage? Surely not the mere fact that they are Monarchies? Why not rely on the decence/ friendship/assistance of a real military organisation? |

Message | Military organizations are inherently war-prone. Friendships with monarchies would not put us in that same position, but we could rely on their support if an unjust war was waged on us. |

Message | Then how do you explain the fact, that several Monarchies are members of NATO? |

Message | We made no statement about monarchies not being a part of that alliance. |

Random fact: When it comes to creating a Cultural Protocol in a Culturally Open nation, players are not necessarily required to provide a plausible backstory for how the nation's cultural background developed. However, the provision of a plausible backstory may be a factor in whether Moderation approves the Cultural Protocol if players in surrounding nations question its appropriateness for their region of the game map. |
