Bill: Age of Majority Act 2902
Details
Submitted by[?]: Freedom Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2903
Description[?]:
At present the age at which a person is considered an adult in Rutania is 18. Freedom believe this is not feasible given the fact that there are many youngsters out there who are more mature than others well before 18. Freedom feel that youngsters need to be taught responsibility in life and not mollycoddled or hamstrung as children until they are nearly 20. Furthermore we believe the age of Majority should be considered to cover most aspects of life, in an effort to synchronise legislation, such as; being able to drink, have sex, join the army, get a job, get married, drive a car, smoke, do jury service and vote. These are but a few of the many choices in life that are arbitrarily being limited to our young adults (read teenagers). Freedom therefore proposes the age of majority be reduced to 16. In accompaniment to the above we also have strong reservations about the law that says "the age until which students, if education were to be compulsary, are required to be educated -- 18" We would like to see this changed to 16 years old also, Jim Hayworth Leader of the Opposition Freedom Party Ldr |
