Bill: GM Labelling

Details

Submitted by[?]: Paleofederalist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2907

Description[?]:

GM products are not harmful and it should be optionial for companies to list any GM ingredients.

Labelling the Genetically Modified ingredients is an expensive venture. It doesn't only cost the money required to physicaly make the label and put it on the product, but also the tremendous amount of audting and scientific certification. Auditing must be done from the very beginning of the food production stream, starting with the seed companies, and following through to the farmers, the grain companies, the food processors, the distributors, and marketers. All of these costs will evetually be passed down onto the purchaser.

Overall labeling costs can be equivalent to at least 9-10% of the retail price of processed food products, and 35-41% of the producer prices. By not requiring companies to have to show GM products on the labels, our businesses and consumers will have more money in their pockets.
