Bill: Voluntary rather than compulsory euthanasia

Details

Submitted by[?]: Christian Democrat Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2910

Description[?]:

We find it disgusting that euthanasia is compulsory for the elderly and disabled. Does this nation have no respect for our elders who have shaped our nation and to whom we owe so much? The state has absolutely no right to decide who dies and when.

MessageThe CDP says "Does this nation have no respect for our elders who have shaped our nation"... and yet they consistently fail to show respect to Zhelezo Immeressen, who is not just old, but immortal - and has been shaping this nation, practically by hand, for centuries.

MessageWe apologise for any offence we have caused Immeressen, but we feel any alleged hypocrisy on our behalf does not in any way weaken our argument for why this bill should go through.

Under the current law surely, euthanasia would have to be attempted on Immeressen, as he clearly is very old.

MessageI think when dealing with an Immortal, one who cannot die, attempts at euthanasia would be the extreme of futility.

MessageAs the Coalition points out - trying to create a system of laws to euthanise an immortal, is like trying to make a troupe of Boy Scouts soak up the ocean with towels.

MessageLegally though it would have to be attempted surely, however foolish.

And we doubt Immeressen is really immortal, he's just living a long life, probably always ate his 5 a day and got plenty of exercise, enough to raise him up to godlike level in the minds of some parties.

Messagewe're unimpressed, we believe there are far more plausible explanations for Immersion's age, it is jumping to conclusions to suggest he is immortal. He could have had several organ transplants (and face transplants) to keep him alive, or be involved in a Narnia-style other world where time moves a lot slower.

MessageFive hundred and 30 years.
40 terms in the highest office.
Whilst he may well have had a small amount of cosmetic surgery, all signs point to immortality. Would you argue that a person who had an organ transplant at age 40 and died at 70 only lived 40 years? Transplants don't negate immortality, in fact they support it, as there is no science to allow total regeneration.

Your second theory isn't worthy of debate, and makes no sense.

MessageWhile the CDP could be right, and the people of Likatonia could have been confused for more than five centuries... (not an accusation we'd like to make)... the historical record certainly seems to show that Immeressen is either immortal... or as near as makes no difference.

OOC: check back through the nation page archives for references to, or made by, Immeressen - or look back through the party history of the Sturm und Drang Partei. Immeressen is a long-established artifact of Likatonian politics. :)
