Bill: Budget proposal of July 2135

Details

Submitted by[?]: Maroon Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2136

Description[?]:

We propose that spending be revised to these nice round numbers to deal with our deficit situation.

We feel that cuts in "foreign affairs" and "internal affairs" are justified, since frankly we can't figure out what they do. Internal affairs seems to be police-related, and do we really need to be spending that much on police? Or the "finance" department... if they were really improving our money management, why do they cost us money to maintain? Similarly, since the "head of government" is presumably just overhead costs, we see no reason why they should be allotted such a large slice of the pie.

We feel that the Department of Defense should recieve more funds allocated to them -- 1/9 of the budget seems reasonable, since the military is the most important thing the government does. Similarly, a slight increase to the health and social services budget will better allow it to carry out some of its new mandates such as the child credit policy.

Finally, we support cuts to "Food and Agriculture" and "Trade and Industry", since the government does not subsidise business or farms to begin with, so why is that budget so large?

We must end our irresponsible spending and cut our unnecessary costs!

MessageWe don't hugely agree with the balance of spending here -- would give much less to the military for example. But we recognise the urgent need to reduce our costs, so we will support.
