Bill: TV and Radio Ownership

Details

Submitted by[?]: Capitalizt Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2136

Description[?]:

We ask to privatize the Nationally owned TVs and Radios to give more competition to the private sector, even if it means (supposed it really is) the 'dumbing down' of media.

TV is classified as a popular medium, as Radio is. It is 'people's ownership' in a certain sense and, if they don't want low-cultured trash, the market will adapt to this.

MessageWhy should we remove the national media? You are removing a source of competition from the market and denying people a viewpoint untainted by the interests of big businesses.

MessageSure it is competition, but it's unfair.
Private companies compete with their own money.
National companies compete-play with taxpayers' money, which is like a neverending well.

Plurality of viewpoints is assured by plurality of competitors. Unless they group themselves in the attempt to form unfair monopolies, but that should be a government job to prevent this - here's how far govn't intervent should go.

MessageWe agree with the UB on this. The removal of the National Media removes a source of competition. If people don't want to watch it they don't have to but the choice to watch it should remain.

MessageThey don't have to watch it, but they have to pay it. Slight difference.

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, it is the responsibility of players to ensure the candidate boxes on their Party Overview screens are filled in with appropriate names. If a player is allotted seats in a Cabinet bill and has not filled in names for the relevant candidate position, then the program will automatically fill in the positions with names which might not necessarily be appropriate for the Cultural Protocols.
