MessageGiving money doesnt do much to help them. Instead we should trade, allowing them to build their economy and stand on their own two feet as opposed to only surviving off handouts from other countries. As the famous advert says, if you give a man a fish he can feed himself for one day, but teach him to fish and he will be able to feed himself for ever.

MessageThe money can be used to supply education, medical supplies. Also a Dorvik medical centre in poor rural areas to immunise against disease. And hundereds of teachers from Dorvik to teach people, engineers to help plan out factories etc

MessageIf we give them a lump sum to be spent on schooling, what happens generations from now when the school needs repairing? The best policy is to combine these charitable donations with trade. Sure, building a well is a good idea and the medical centres are good ideas. But for a stable nation, you need a stable economy so we should encourage companies to trade with these companies, build factories there and so on.

MessageDon't try and make this a money making scheme for Dorvik

MessageTo be honest, wouldnt you prefer to make money whilst helping someone rather than help them and lose money? The way I am suggesting everybody wins, the way you are suggesting means we lose and they win in the short-term only. This is what happens when ideologists try to run an economy - failure.

MessageOf course we wish to help these people, we just want to know how you intend to donate this money? If it is half spent on hospitals and education, and half invested in their economy I will definetly agree.

MessageThe problem with charity is it does create dependency. If, for instance, we donate a lot of food it sends food prices massivly down bankrupting farms in their country. This means in the future they rely on our food handouts. The same can be applied to almost any form of outright donation. That is why we need assurances this money will be invested wisely.

MessageFor the good of Dorvik and the third world countries you speak of I am forced to vote no - its not too late to compromise though.

MessageForeign aid will definately be a feature in the future as soon as I implement an economic and a trade system. However I think that without knowing how other nations are off economically, pledging aid is unneeded. For all we know, we may be the poorest nation.
