Bill: South Vintalli Emergency Compensation Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Democratic Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2046

Description[?]:

This bill has been proposed in light of the South Vintalli river ecological disaster:

Global Gazette, April 2045
A leak at a factory in South Vintalli has caused thousands of litres of poisonous chemicals to be released into an important river. Environmentalists predict that the aquatic life in the river will be wiped out and it will take years to recover. The company responsible, BBP Inc., is a major member in the logistics sector of South Vintalli and there are worries that a similar incident could happen in their other plants that exist throughout Gaduridos. The company has refused to comment on the issue.

Since there were only moderate laws regulating pollution levels in place at the time (and therefore it would probably be a futile attempt to hold BBP Inc responsible for the disaster), this bill proposes that:

The Government step in and compensate those who were greatly affected by the disaster for loss of livelihood and/or any resulting health problems that may have resulted from the disaster.

MessageI will wait to see if the early elections act is passed first before submitting this bill for the vote. In the meantime, victims of the disaster will have to rely on a emergency fund beong set up by various charities and organisations in the Free Republic. Please donate generously!

MessagePerhaps we should vote yes regardless of the elections as the people need those funds now. I urge this bill to go to vote!

MessageWe should force the corporation responsible BBP, Inc. to pay compensation to the people affected by this. Also we must mandate that they adhere to higher standards of operation.

MessageWell I guess if the early elections bill is not passed, then it would be silly to have to wait a further eight months until this bill is passed before the inhabitants of South Vintalli recieve compensation. So this bill will be moved to the vote now
