Bill: Firearm Safety Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Scientific Socialist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2941
Description[?]:
While crime in our nation is on the decline, we still hear all too often about crimes committed by criminals using weapons that are far too dangerous even for police to handle safely. Under our current law, it is entirely legal for a person to carry a sawed-off shotgun or a fully-automatic machine gun, concealed under their clothing, into any public area, even if that person is a known criminal. It is foolish for us to allow this kind of thing to go on any longer. Some of you may have heard recently of the massacre committed in a public area in our own city, not too far from here, where a man, armed with an automatic sub-machine gun, walked into a public square and opened fire, killing four people and injuring over 20 others. The man had previously been arrested and served five years in prison for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, which under our current law is not a crime that would disqualify one from possessing such a weapon. This kind of thing cannot be allowed to happen again. Under our proposed law, no one convicted of a crime will be allowed to own any kind of firearm, and all citizens will be prevented from purchasing weapons that are excessively dangerous. Furthermore, no citizen will be allowed to carry a weapon in a concealed manner, or carry a weapon in most public places without a permit. |

Message | "The man had previously been arrested and served five years in prison for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, which under our current law is not a crime that would disqualify one from possessing such a weapon." If you read our law it clearly states, "Individuals are allowed to own firearms as long as they do not have a history of dangerous mental illness or a violent criminality." If you go any stricter than that, you will have riots and more violence in the streets. |
