Message | If there are other nations that have reciprocal tarrifs then by removing our own, our industry will be able to open into new markets. Tarrifs may well be seen as a good short-term option to protect industry, but you if you consider it in a wider context, most economic research suggests free trade is better for the economy in the long run. |

Message | I agree with both of you that free trade is the ultimate goal. however, if another nation is slapping our goods with duties and tarrifs, I think we should retalliate. Essentially, I support the status quo. Current tarrifs can be removed through free trade agreements. I think this is the better strategy. I don't take kindly to giving another nation unrestricted access to our market, while they screw us over in their home market with tarrifs. |
