MessageThe largest party in parliament should have the office of Prime Minister, as it would be in a better position to usher through the policies of the President.

MessageThe NCRP roundly rejects this backdoor attempt to enshrine by precedent the principle which less than one third of deputies supported when it was presented to this house as the Parliamentary Government Act II. The selection of the Prime Minister is the perogative of the house, not the god-given right of any faction, least of all when no party achieved even one vote in three, never mind a majority.

Furthermore, this Parliament, having been elected prior to the creation of the office of Prime Minister, is obliged to honour the result of the last election - the people voted President Paul Chambers head of government & until they have the opportunity to vote again we must allow his party to retain that position, the constitutional change having disbarred him from carrying it out himself.

The NCRP deplores this for what it is: a power-grab.

- D. D. Ó Cearrbhaill, President of the New Constitutional Republican Party
