MessageRt Hon Cheryl Macintosh MP, Prime Minister:

Mr Deputy Speaker, the Conservative-Libertarian Party would once again like to nominate Julian Atkinson, the current Speaker of the House. Mr Speaker has served this House for over 10 years now, and, when the CLP left this Parliament, he withdrew his party membership in order to continue to serve this House to the best of his ability. Mr Deputy Speaker, I truly believe that Mr Speaker should serve this House for one further term. I shall read out the brief biography I gave of him when he was first elected:

"Madam Speaker, the Conservative-Libertarian Party would like once again to nominate Julian Atkinson, Member of Parliament for Isle of Sutton North, who led the opposition against an appointed Speaker. Julian Atkinson is 46 years old and has been in Parliament since 2939. He was born in inner city Langdon and raised in an orphanage. Not knowing his parents, he was eventually adopted at the age of 7 by a charity worker and her husband. Brought up in abject poverty, he was taught at the local comprehensive school and got his first job at the age of 18, as a porter for Roccato Hotels. He married Sylvia, a receptionist, at the age of 22 and they have been together ever since. At the age of 23 he came into contact with Karl Fisher, the owner and Chief Executive of Roccato Hotels. Mr Fisher was so impressed by the service provided by Julian Atkinson, that he was headhunted to become Deputy Manager of their only branch on the Isle of Sutton, in Sutton City. He proved to be so effective that Mr Fisher made the decision to open a new, smaller hotel on the very north point of the island. It became renowned as a country getaway, in a place of rural tranquility. Julian Atkinson developed it to incorporate a lot of woodland and made it into a place for sport and leisure. It soon became Roccato Hotels' most profitable branch.

"Julian joined the Conservative-Libertarian Party in 2936, upon the election of Alan Hastings as party leader. He was impressed by the party's commitment to aspiration, and believed that his own rags-to-riches story fit well with the CLP's ideas. After meeting Alan Hastings, he was asked if he would represent Isle of Sutton North in the 2939 election, due to his knowledge of the area and the jobs that he had created there. He stood and gained the seat from the Labour Party. He has represented the seat consistently since then and it is the party's third safest seat, following Wrightstown East and Glentingham North. He is dedicated to Parliament and parliamentary democracy and believes that all Members of Parliament should have an equal voice."

MessageThe NSC shall continue to abstain from the Office of Speaker. We feel our MP's are better off suited to represent their constituents rather than take up the politically neutral Office of Speaker.

MessageMr Deputy Speaker, because of NSC not wanting this largely irrelevant office of Speaker and Labour abandoning the people by moving to Lourenne. The NSC must therefore vote for the CLP candidate and he wins by default.

MessageMr Deputy Speaker, given the fact that this is simply a re-election of Mr Speaker, I do not think the House should feel any bit dismayed at the way in which this election process has faltered. He has already proven himself quite capable of doing the job.
