Bill: Education Reform of 2138
Details
Submitted by[?]: Market Socialist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2140
Description[?]:
As the Minister of Education I would like to initiate a bill that would, we believe, improve the quality of our schools, and further the education receive there. Bullying Awareness: We recognise that some students would rather attend home school because of the bullying that usually goes on in such institutions. However, we believe that an education based solely on what a parent knows is not enough to equipt a student with skills needed to compete in a very competitive world. Therefore, we propose that a strong bullying awareness programme is introduced and strictly inforced. The programme will include, but in no means be limited to, racism, classism, sexism homophobia, and religious creed. EVERY ONE has the right to feel safe, and free from insults while the individual in question receives the skills they need for the future. Expulsion/Suspention Expulsion and suspension will not be used as a method of punishment. We believe this should be so because those children who are most troubled are the ones who need education the most...and how can they be expected to reform if they are not educated. |

Message | How can I have confidence in private institutions while the MSP says that parents are not competent ? We will oppose this bill: it will make the government funds sucked by private interests that will find any pretext to increase fees. Also, the few parents that want to educate their children at home while following the national norms will be penalised. |

Message | Of course the privately owned schools will be regulated to make sure that they teach children what is necessary and also the private schools cannot charge the government indefinately, there will have to be regulation on how much a school can charge the government...depending upon market factors such as inflation and such. |

Message | We like clause two to a very large extent. Clause one, however, strikes us as infringing on individuals' freedom, especially if they are homeschooled for religious reasons. |

Message | Let them learn where they please. So long as they learn. Private schools only? So only the rich/elite may be educated? That's the stuff of Absolutist Governments... |

Message | Actually, studies show that many home schooled children are well rounded and intelligent. Futhermore, localities provide parent/teachers with workshops and resources to help with the teaching. Also, many countries require the same standards from home schools and public schools. |

Message | ´´Education is private, but the government subsidises the cost of it for everyone.´´ The Government subsidises the cost for everyone - that means that every one has an equal chance to get an education. It is axactly for religious reasons that we do not want children homeschooled. Some religious zealot parents would want their children to never a second view on the world. OOC: Trust me I know by experience. We would like every child to have the same education so that they can have the same opportunities to compete. |

Message | Oh, well, subsidised is alright. If we're going to subsidise every one, we might as well make the schools public. |
