Message | "The CMP urges leftist parties in particular to view the merits of this Act. Whilst we appreciate the hesitation regarding Monarchy, we would like to point out that this bill allows for a Senatorially-appointed Lord Protector, rather than a King. The role of the Executive is thus minimalised and the Senate reigns Sovereign. The Lord Protector can, under law, be removed and replaced at our leisure. It would be the ultimate compromise candidate and would represent the will of the Senate, so democratically elected. We feel that this is especially true due to the new ability of the Chamber to propose cabinets, rather than the Head of State." Senator Asbjørn Holm, CMP Senatorial Lead on behalf of the Solentian Democratic Alliance. |

Message | No-one will be surprised that we stand firmly against this monarchial nonsense! Make no mistake, should senators be so out-of-touch as to vote through this travesty, the Left Radical Party will dismantle it at the first opportunity. |
Date | 17:48:39, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | "I remind the LRP that this is not a Monarchist proposal, but an attempt to create a compromised, democratic ceremonial Head of State." Senator Asbjørn Holm, CMP Senatorial Lead on behalf of the Solentian Democratic Alliance. OOC: There is no option for a ceremonial Head of State, but this would essentially be it. By Particracy rules, when we wanted to change Lord Protector, we would vote on a resolution and with 2/3rds majroity, the mods would change the name. It is effectivly a Senatorially-elected position but thats not available in the game mechanics thus this is the closest. |
Date | 17:55:07, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Social Renewal Party | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | It's an attempt to implement monarchy in all but name. We see no merit in adopting a ceremonial head of state and feel very strongly that the Supreme Presidency and its associated executive and exclusive powers has served Solentia exceptionally well. We're similarly opposed to the attempt to re-fashion the familiar names of our institutions for those of no relevance to modern day Solentians. The Left Radical Party's vehement opposition to this constitutional change is restated. |
Date | 17:59:19, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | Possibly. We would like some debate on the titles though. Chancellor and Lord Protector seem a little odd, we need to have a proper debate on them and I would support. I will oppose this bill and propose one with Articles one, two and seven. Coleen Power Deputy Tory Leader |

Message | "The Senate is Sovereign, we can do what we will." Senator Asbjørn Holm, CMP Senatorial Lead on behalf of the Solentian Democratic Alliance. OOC: Yes, it would. As exmplained, you put the name onto the forums and the mods change the nation's details to match what is passed. |

Message | OOC: I'll need to double check that, what about when a Monarch dies IG? Are the players still required to elect the sucessor or will a legislative confirmation suffice? |
Date | 18:28:02, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Nuncpart Supreme Congress | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC: You would need to change the constitution, elect a successor and change it again. |
Date | 18:30:49, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC: According to the Pax Cyncia, none of these bills, my own or COMMIE100's, would be valid to Moderation anyways as we need to propose Nation Name changes and the likes independently of other Articles to avoid changes to stats for people who oppose. |
Date | 18:38:42, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC- Why don't you go away and do a research project, we will vote down all the propoals on here, and after the election you can redo it. |
Date | 18:42:52, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC: It would require Lord Belisarius election to Supreme President but it's doable. |
Date | 18:45:56, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC- Which would mean he would have to stand for a political party which means he is dogged down by party politicis, which we oppose. Why don't you go and do a portfolio on the topic so you are more clued up?? |
Date | 18:50:05, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC: I did look it up, in the game rules. There is no other way for it to be accepted by moderation. Any person becoming monarch needs to be elected first. |
Date | 18:50:53, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | Unless the candidate stands with my party, then we would have to oppose. |
Date | 18:57:52, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC- Could you possbly do a research portfolio about it, explain about Lord Ballerous and put all the logical arguments together for us all to consider? |
Date | 19:04:21, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | ooc: There really is no need when Pax Cyncia is available for all to see. Lord Belisarius is also not my character, I cannot really detail his history. |
Date | 19:05:19, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |

Date | 19:06:08, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC: He is the Crown Party; please check the cabinet, he's the Senate Warden and has been for years. |
Date | 19:08:11, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Sue's Corner | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | Then he is party political? Therefore we would oppose on these grounds. |
Date | 19:12:09, August 16, 2010 CET | From | Coalition for National Unity [CNU] | To | Debating the Solentian Democratic Alliance Legislation II: Commonwealth Proposal |
Message | OOC: It is impossible to elect someone who isn't. Starting monarch must always belong to a party. After that, I believe they loose their allegence. Endralon has a King, who has no party assigned to him, but he must have been elected to begin with. |

Random fact: Parties have the ability to endorse another party's candidate for the Head of State election (if there is one). This adds a strategic element to the elections. |
