MessageAnd this is and approximation of what taxation levels are in RL in the UK.

On a side point, if income tax were raised to a level that could sustain projected government expenditure (IoW above that which would support a budget of approx 4,000,000,000,000), I would be in favour of abolishing sales taxes, and maybe reducing corporation taxes to about 10%, maybe even 5%.

MessageUK also has major socialist tendencies, about which many people have no idea. Yes, true, they did have margaret Thatcher, but they also have a screwed up and largely expensive school system, and socialized health care.

MessageAnd its a much nicer place to live than the US, well excluding the rather damp climate. The UK has the largest per-GDP expenditure on defence in the 'Western World' outside of the US, lower tax rates than in Europe, but much better provision of schooling, healthcare and the like than the US, which has none, but costs (apparently) proportionally than Belguim's, even though Belgium is actually very good with regards to provision of healthcare.

In essence access to schooling and healthcare is a function of government, not private enterprise. For-profit corporations cannot be trusted to keep the public good in their interests. Afterall, it is morally abhorent for someone to be denied healthcare merely because they couldn't afford health insurance, or did not understand the 'small print'.

That is oddly enough why I am all in favour of abolishing private health and education. The former because healthcare should be universal, there should be no way of 'buying' a better service. If you want better healthcare, then pay through it through taxation. The later because it is proven that when children of all classes are educated together, then all benefit, not just the 'poor kids'. The trouble is where the more wealthy have the option of 'opting out' of the education system, then all suffer. Their spoilt bratts become insufferable idiots, likely to be knifed in the first pub that they enter, and the able porr children are dragged down by their disruptive brethren, lacking any peers with asperations beyond buying a car and getting laid.

Messagewow.... DUP that is surprisingly the most sense you have ever made on any argument, and you actually made really good points.

I still fundamentally disagree, but it is respectable.

MessageDUP is not insane when it comes to issues other than religion. Which is why I hammer DUP so much on that one issue - I know DUP is capable of rationality, and usually practices it. ;-)
