Mr Speaker, there is no reason why a child cannot be bought up adequately by a single parent. As long as that parent has the support of their family and friends, a child can be brought up to be as normal as anyone else.

MessageRt Hon Viscount Holding MP, Conservative Party Leader,

Mr Speaker, while we on the Conservative benches are largely in favour of civil liberties and passing this Act would be a large victory for civil liberties we are struggling to come around to voting yes to this Bill.

Mr Speaker, in our minds there cannot be any "maybes" or "so long as" whenever it comes to the Hutorian adoption system. We must make sure that the child in question is placed into a home and a family environment. Undoubtedly there are single people who could raise adopted children but we feel as though this is maybe one bridge too far for the Hutorian adoption system. Our main focus here should be the children - not the adoptive parents. This party believes in children going into a family and not a single household.

So on those grounds Mr Speaker, we oppose this Bill.
