Message | After months of debate the members of the Third Way have agreed upon an economic platform for the April, 3076 election. Party members believe adopting the new economic reforms suggested as law will allow Kalistanis of all income levels improve their financial situation. Delegates cheered the elimination of the regressive national sales tax that has saddled our people with an unfair tax burden for far too long, robbing the poorest members of society without reinvesting their hard earned tax dollars back into the economy or into improvements to basic social services. More conservative members of the party bemoaned the exclusion of a provision for copyright reform in the platform, a policy many in the minority of the party believe is a necessary step toward renewing innovation in Kalistan. Some members, such as delegate Sidney Johnston, lamented that conservative efforts to include a re-evaluation of the retirement age fell short. Still, conservatives and moderates remarked that they were pleased the platform included reforms to the government's higher education policy that will allow students of all income levels, not just the richest and poorest few , to further their education. Conservatives and progressives also came together to call for a removal of government restrictions on the operation of Democratic Workers' Councils, a policy liberals in the party call regressive and conservatives view as unwarranted government interference in the economy. Party members eagerly await the public's and the other political parties' reactions on their proposed platform. Members are confident that voters will see the merit in their proposals come the next election. |
