Description[?]:
***SR 23: The Pharmaceutical Subsidy Adjustment Act*** Sponsored by: Senator Ryan Fay, Chancellor, SDP Cosponsored by: Senator Joe Augutis, Shadow Finance Minister (SDP) ___________________________________________________________ Article I: Be it resolved by a majority of the Senate assembled, that Solentian federal law be amended to abolish pharmaceutical subsidies for those above a certain income, while continuing the subsidies for those with low incomes. ___________________________________________________________ Whereas the current subsidies for pharmaceutical drugs are not means-tested, we wish to discontinue the costly subsidies for those who do not need them. We recognize the absolute need for all people to have access to pharmaceutical drugs to protect their health. However, those at higher levels of income and those who earn well enough to sustain themselves do not need these subsidies. The government can find tremendous budgetary savings by ending the subsidies for those who do not need them, while preserving the social safety net for those who do need them. |

Message | *from the floor of the Senate* The status-quo of providing non-means-tested subsidies is unsustainable to the budget of Solentia. While we currently are running a surplus, we could find substantial fiscal savings by only offering the subsidies to those who need them. We believe this to be a fair bill. Currently, we offer free pharmaceuticals to those who need them. That will remain the same, only now we can find savings by not offering subsidies to those who don't need them. After all, do we offer most other social security and welfare options to those who don't need them? The government safety net is for those who need it, and we believe that cutting the subsidies tho the upper classes will yield substantial government savings without hurting anybody. This moderate bill should find support among all. Help the people, help the budget. I yield back. Senator Joe Augutis Shadow Finance Minister (SDP) |
