Submitted by[?]: Left Communist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2142

In the interests of liberty and creating a large workforce, the EUP propose that coming of age and compulsory education termination shall occur at the age of 16, as was originally proposed. It makes no sense that secondary education should last past adulthood.

MessageIf I remember I'll put this to vote tomorrow, to allow the other parties to debate.

Raising the age of adulthood would harm the economy (and civil rights) more, as restrictions would be imposed on work to a much later age. I'm not saying that we should force 16 year olds into the workforce, but if they are adults then they should be entitled to the choice of an adult's line of work, and an adult's pay.

MessageLowering the age of young people entering the workforce will adversely effect the economy, both in the short and long terms.
In the short term, there would be increasing numbers of people entering the job market with no equivocal increase in the number of jobs in the market increasing unemployment. In the long term the situation becomes even worse, with more young people entering the workforce with ever lower degrees of education.
We would also point out that specified within the current laws on educational achievement, students are able to choose between either a scholastic post 16 education or a vocational one (or even an apprenticeship). There is no law stopping the payment to these students and they would, due to the current laws on both slavery and wages, be likely to already receive the minimum wage, thusly an adult income.
This law would be harm the economy and the education of our youngsters and we call upon all right thinking Parties to vote down this foolish and unthought through proposal.

MessageLooks like this is doomed, but if the election gives me and the LPU more of a majority I may resurrect this.
