Bill: OOC: Coalition Votes
Details
Submitted by[?]: Conservative Party of Solentia
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 3219
Description[?]:
By the game mechanics alone, the cabinets have no actual function, except to show friendship relations between parties. To make the formation of Cabinets more relevant, and make the game more realistic, we propose that the parties in Solentia observe these RP conventions: 1). During a parliamentary term, each party in the Cabinet can request Coalition Vote(s) on a maximum of 3 articles (not necessarily in the same bill or at the same time). When a Coalition Vote is requested, all Cabinet parties should vote YES. 2). Coalition Votes can be requested only with articles connected to the ministries held by the party that is proposing, e.g. you can call for a Coalition Vote on education issues only if you control the Ministry of Education and Culture. 3). A Cabinet party can vote NO to a Coalition Vote, but that would force the breaking up of the Cabinet and the formation of a new one. |

Message | This was brought up (I believe) by the CMP during the Solentian Heritage Coalition Conference of 3000. It has been used in other nations to some success (this version is copy pasted from Aldegar, though I believe its origin is not there.) I just thought I'd put it up here for discussion, it might make some of the lesser-used cabinet spaces have more of a use, and could potentially lead to some interesting political occurrences. Thoughts, anyone? |

Message | OOC: This makes so much more sense. It means that people will actually stop and think about their opposition's policies before they grant them a department. I found it in Kazulia I believe, though it;s out of use now. I think we should at least give it a trial period. |

Message | I agree, it'd serve to allow some actual use of coalition governments where minority parties can support a cabinet in exchange for a certain piece of policy getting enacted. I'd like to give it a trial, too. Anybody else ok with it? |

Message | I would reccomend longer terms to cope with the inevitable longer debates and coalition talks though, but that may be difficult IC to justify. |

Message | We strongly support this proposal. this is a great idea of democracy and consistency. We also propose, as was done in our law (http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=311402) that the Coalition is signed before the elections and that is made public. |
Date | 06:10:55, March 07, 2011 CET | From | Labour Party | To | Debating the OOC: Coalition Votes |
Message | We can support this. |
Date | 09:39:44, March 29, 2011 CET | From | Liberal Congress of Solentia | To | Debating the OOC: Coalition Votes |
Message | Yes, we support this because we acknowledge that there needs to be a more functional government in order to tackle our countries problems. |

Message | This is very good. Cabinets will have more purpose to serve. |

Message | OOC: Sent to vote to clear off the docket, but I note that this vote doesn't matter... http://classic.particracy.net/viewbill.php?billid=331375 has passed and stands as the official passage of this. |
