Bill: Energy Price Regulation Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Movement for Universal Democracy

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 3084

Description[?]:

Provision of electric power is often carried out by monopolies or oligopolies. This is done because of the huge start-up costs necessary. However, not only does this mean that there is a limited supply, meaning that productive economies of scale are of capital importance, but it also increases the possibility for people to be exploited and, in more colloquial terms, 'ripped off'.

The Movement stands for democracy and justice and being 'ripped off' is neither. We need a democratic governance of energy production and while it is not feasible to advance with a nationalisation of this sector just yet, it is of key importance that prices be regulated to avoid a scandal with similar contours to Enron.
