Bill: Abolition of the Death Penalty

Details

Submitted by[?]: Revolutionary Worker's Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 3090

Description[?]:

The Worker's Party feels that it is imperative that the Death Penalty is abolished.

No one should have the power over someone else's life. Many will argue that for some crimes, like crimes against humanity, it is necessary, but a death penalty is only a quick escape.
A life in prison is much more punishing than a death penalty.

MessageNo, we need the death penalty thank you very much. I will say it clearly, some people do not have the right to be alive, love it loathe it that is reality. Anyway we cannot guarantee someone will have life in prison as there might be a corrupt judge who will only give them say 40 years for a crime like terrorism. In my books, that person will be put do death and no messing around with it.

MessageLong-term prison is expensive, but one deadly innocent prisoner is unacceptable for us and for people of this nation. Basic but small reason for capital punisment is crime prevention but probability to mistake is big and incorrigible. We support this bill too.

MessageTo Labour Party:

What about a corrupt judge that makes someone be put to death when they only deserve a life in prison? Or when they only deserve 40 years?
People will be killed unjustly. Innocents will die. How many times a prisoner is sentenced to death, and later proof is found that he was not guilty?

Can you live with that conscience?

MessageActually yes I can live with that conscience, what's done is done.

Anyway, how about if a man goes on a killing rampage and kills 50 people and he only gets 10 years in prison when clearly it should of have been death. Now, can you live with that conscience?

MessageThat's a very unrealistic scenario. Two rights don't make a wrong. Death is a quick getaway.

For the religious, death doesn't give you time to repent and try to right your wrongs. A life in prison is much more punishing, not to mention that the prisoners can actually work while they are there, and contribute to society, even if only to pay what they spend to be alive.

No one should have the right to decide on someone else's life.

I'm enjoying the silence of the Christian Democratic Party.
