Therefore The CAPITALIST CONSPIRACY Under the divine leadership of our glorious leader, Sam Walton proposes that the infrastructure for a military draft be installed in case of a national emergency. All adults can be called upon to help protect our Great empire of Dolgaria, and should do so in times of national crisis. |

Old value:: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve a term of civilian national service.
Current: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve either a term in the military or a lesser paid term of civilian national service, at their option.
Proposed: All adults upon completion of schooling can be required in times of war to serve a term in the military.

| Message | The trouble with this is that it does not provide the sense of civic duty that a period of national service instills. As much as finding cheap labour for certain projects, civilian national service helps to provide with our rather irresponsible young with some form of framework where they can learn at first hand the importance of civic virtue. It also provides valuable life skills and work experience for that matter. Oh, and did I mention that conscript armies are bloody rubbish? |

| Message | They were both conscript armies, the Russians had numbers on their side, well and the weather for that matter. And actually their tanks were very, very good once they started using them in sufficient numbers. Quite literally ran rings around Tigers, Panthers and the like. I think that a better example is the Falklands, where a numerically smaller well trained professional army defeated a much larger conscript force. And that particular war was fought without much in the way of mechanisation or for that matter air power on either side. Well, actually the Argentineans did have a few amphibious APC's, but well that's an irrelevance really. Another more recent example is obviously the recent Gulf War, whereby the numerically large, but conscript Iraqi army pretty much evaporated. The same was true in 1992 for that matter. |
