MessageWe havent discussed the subject but it is already at vote with the Prog Cons reforms.

I think, broadly speaking, it falls under freedom of expression. The desecration of the flag is a political expression of hatred toward the nation. This action would be performed by two groups of people:
1. Foreigners who we have no control over.
2. Morons who don't see the door out of the nation.

I personally would suggest that you burn the flag of the political party that you hate, rather than that of the nation, but if you want to, so be it. It just shows you fall under category two.

MessageDesecration of the flag is a matter of expressing oneself. As the symbol of the nation, it is the ultimate sign of contempt of the nation. If a person feels that the nation is taking policies which no longer make it the nation it was, they might be inclined to burn the flag. If they confuse the nation with the government, and it is one they oppose, they may wish to burn the flag. Either way, it is that person's choice to do so, and not one which we should deny them. It is a weak nation that cannot tolerate dissent, but a strong nation which not merely permits it, but encourages it, for robust debate and active citizenry.

MessageAre we allowed to kick the bejaysus out of morons who desecrate the Flag? I voted with the pro cons on this one and would support this as well.

Having an identity card is not a right. It was cancelled to save tax aureus. Taxation is a far greater crime (albeit extremely necessary) when compared to the closure of a government program.

"Are we allowed to kick the bejaysus out of morons who desecrate the Flag?"
=P Let's hope so.

And, as usual, the Dem Socs have summed up the point in an entirely correct and eloquent manner.

MessageBut isn't the flag of a country the countries spiritual and phycolgical image? If so then wouldn't some one who burnt it be openly attacking the counrty as a whole? If so then wouldn't it make sense to have the ability to punish such people whom by burning the flag he attack Baltusia?

OOC: i would personaly hope the punishment is not too severe.

MessageNo.

Simply because if you were flicking through the channels on tv and came across someone burning the flag, would you sit and listen to find out what they stand for or what you just think "Dickhead. Fuck off to Deltaria if you dont like it. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" and keep changing channels?
